Over the last few days and weeks, Egg and I (as well as some other speedrunners of the game) have noticed that the in-game timer can be quite inconsistent, and in particular that when the game is lagging the timer runs much slower than normal. This means that random (or deliberate lag) is a huge factor in how good a time you get under the current system.

With this in mind, we have decided to change the rules so that all runs are now ranked on real time instead of in game time. This means that:

  • timer mode is no longer required for any runs, including theatre and full game runs
  • all current and future runs will be retimed by me or another mod (you don't need to do anything) and the leaderboards reorganised by real time instead of igt.

The in-game time will continue to be displayed on the leaderboard for anyone who is interested, but the official ranking will be only based on whoever has the fastest real time. This is to make the ranking fairer and more consistent.

Enjoy your speedrunning!

(Oh also, there is currently nothing in the rules against abusing the lag to get a faster igt, we will still accept laggy runs - however it won't help you because igt means nothing)
