Would it be possible for you to allow for emulator runs for this game, please? I would very much like to do some runs of this game in multiple categories, but cannot at this moment due to the lack of the ability to allow for emulated runs.
Thanks :)
I'm sorry, but I don't think it's a good idea to allow emulator runs for these reasons:
- Detecting cheats gets quite difficult
- If we use quick-load(QL), we can use the same piece-pattern, and it's hard to know whether or not the player used QL before the run started.
You can easily get around the second one by requesting a hard reset before the run. As for the first one, cheating is actually fairly straightforward to notice.
Furthermore, there are quite a few other games that allow emulators and they haven't had too many issues with it.
Even if we request such a thing, emulators definitely make it easier to cheat in the run. For instance, QL during the black screen, using 61fps instead of 60fps and so on. To minimize such a possibility, I think requesting to use a real SNES is the best way.
What if someone is unable to afford the equipment needed to play/record/capture the footage required for this ruling? By disallowing emulation, you are also restricting the amount of people that are able to speedrun this game.
I won't argue my point any further than this. If this doesn't change your mind, I will go and find another game to speedrun.
Suzu_Rin isn't keeping you from speedrunning the game. you are allowed to speedrun it, just not submit a speedrun on an emulator to this board
SRC is just a leaderboard, not the be all end all of speedrunning for this particular game
also, as someone who has all the things necessary to speedrun and record this game on console, it is not that expensive. definitely an investment but less than $100 USD for sure
I live on a fixed income, and I don't have that kind of money to spare, unfortunately. Thanks for the explanations. The whole point of me wanting to speedrun this game is to submit it to the leaderboards, so I will just skip this game and move onto other projects I have in the works.
