Best Performance Guide for Dolphin

### For Reloaded (or any version of Shadow) to run at full 60FPS at all times / have better performance, perform the below.

**Graphics -> General:**

For **newer nvidia cards (GTX 10XX series or newer)**

Make sure your **Graphics Backend** is set to **Vulkan or D3D11**.

For **older** cards, **OpenGL** may perform better.

Shadow has random crashes if using **D3D12** in current versions of Dolphin (2412 at time of writing).

Try them all if you have inconsistent framerates.

**Graphics -> Enhancements:**

Internal Resolution: Any are allowed. The higher you go the better hardware you need. I personally run 3x Native.

Anti Aliasing is None or 2x or 4x MSAA only, SSAA will have issues with some effects. I use None.

**Graphics -> Hacks:**

Enable everything except Vertex Rounding / VBI Skip (your call if you want those)

GPU Texture Decoding Slider should be set to the **Middle option** due to bugs in Dolphin

**Config -> General:**

Uncheck/Disable "Enable Dual Core (speedup)" - This crashes the game a lot, very redundant if you are on hardware newer than 8th gen middle tier CPUs.

**Config -> Advanced:**

Enable Emulated CPU Clock Override (132 or 150 or 200)

If your CPU can handle it, you want to set a higher CPU clock rate to get a consistent 60 FPS.

A Wii clock rate (150%) is great on 99% of stages, 200% would be ideal for full consistent 60FPS at all times.

If you are on lower end hardware I recommend around 130-135%. That said, default clockspeed is fine if your hardware can't keep up, you'll just have a few 40-50fps sections.

**Game Properties (Right Click the Game -> Properties):**

Uncheck "Emulate Disc Speed".

This should already be done automatically if you followed the Reloaded Setup Guide and copied `GUPR8P.ini` to your Dolphin \GameSettings folder.

Recommended Input/Controller Capture

It is highly recommended (but not required) to show your inputs either by an external program such as [univrsal/input-overlay](https://github.com/univrsal/input-overlay), [m-overlay](https://github.com/bkacjios/m-overlay), [gamepadviewer](https://gamepadviewer.com/), or Dolphin's built-in input viewer.

## Univrsal/input-overlay

Requires using OBS Studio for recording.

Recommended for Linux. Compatible with native and flatpak versions of OBS Studio.

Available as .deb and in the AUR. dreamsyntax uses **input-overlay-bin** from the AUR.

You will need to specify an Overlay image and config file. By default, they are installed to **/usr/share/obs/obs-plugins/input-overlay/presets/**. Alternatively, you can download the presets from the main github link and store them elsewhere.

Choose your Gamepad in the id list, and you should be all set.

## **m-overlay**

This program directly hooks into Dolphin and reads the game memory looking for inputs. BlazinZzetti added support for Shadow the Hedgehog.

I recommend this for Windows, but if you are on Linux and get this working feel free to add steps.
