Hey, I want to submit a run, knives only, where I used infinite knife + only knives as a defensive item. could we make a knife only category?
It will be discussed soon, we're just trying to get the main important categories set up before we add anything else
Yes i feel the category should be destructible knives only on standard. infinite knife should definitely be for Hardcore because yeah... that would be the only way to knife it LOL. Been testing routes with destructible knives and it's pretty freakin awesome.
Agreed to make it breakable only - run HC as NG at your own risk LOL! Eager to see more interest in this category, and to hopefully have it added to the main boards as opposed to CE.
would sub-weapons such as grenades me usable? How about as a defense item?
Few important things that would have to be decided on for this category. Also best to set same frame rates as decided are okay for NG or lock it at 60 (Play with that shitty knife)
Leon A cannot be completed without the rocket at the end in addition to a grenade for the croc...so it would be rare occasions to use defense items besides the knife imo...then again not sure if teh Bs can be done. It will be discussed in time for the extended categories.
60 and 120 should be acceptable just like the main categories, I believe Low% would be best as Leon would need a grenade/handgun bullet to kill Croc and RL for Tyrant. Both Claire runs can be done with standard knives.
Gonna say a flat no to allowing other defense items for the instances of grabs and mobs (jail mob in Leon runs). These can all be done through evasion or heals if you prefer brute force - knife category so you will need to be very safe and learn the dodges well! It's a lot of fun and a great way to appreciate the work you need to put in to survive in this game.
The only thing I would say is that Ivys are near impossible to dodge unless you knife them, i'm not saying impossible because sometimes there positioning is in your favour so you can slide right past. You can knife them in the legs to stun them or make them miss there attack, but i'm yet to do this consistently. Are there really enough knives in the game to finish? I will test for myself later, I get that it would be impossible for hardcore but it seems strange to have 2 sets of rules between hardcore and standard. especially since "infinite knife" has been a staple of most resident evil games and not a "bonus" weapon. I think an "infinite knife" only category would be truer to the knife only culture of the past.
Ivys are a difficult part, but there are alternate routes and a spare knife you can use for defence placed in the Server Room where you will encounter them.
The game is confirmed beatable on Standard using breakable knives with the Leon exceptions above, and that includes potentially skipping two knives as they are outside of the routes myself and CrazyGamingDayz have tested, but HC requires the infinite knife as there aren't enough breakables to complete it otherwise.
I propose Low% and HC to be a NG+ for these reasons, although Infinite Knife is a bit more true to form to old Resident Evil, respectfully, this game is a beast of its own and should be treated as such - Inf is a NG+ unlock, and should remain in NG+.
^ kniferun here got the right idea. save a damaged knife for the ivy if you don't think you can handle timing the knife swipe on the ivy. In terms of other items like grenades that's just a flat no go lol. The knife category would be listed as low% anyways and just like most other low% games if theres a part where you HAVE to use something specific then by all means do so. I.E croc in this over RE2 original is a chase not a fight so i say it's fair game to use a bullet from a gun on the pipeline because you have no other choice which is also the same for Mr X. fight him with the knife and use the rocket launcher when it's time (similar to RE2 original B scenario where you'd have to use it the same way) besides that everything else should be knife including that shitty doorway with all the zombies afterwards LOL
one defensive knife on a well placed zombie should get you through that doorway, as long as you don't waste them all on tyrant
Come to think of it I'm not sure you can kill Tyrant with just the knife, his charge can't be dodged, and it has to happen for the fight to end.
In all scenarios the only thing used besides the knives is a rocket to end tyrant and a handgun bullet to end croc. Im pretty sure.
The rocket is needed to end tyrant.
Bearlol, his charges happen after debris falls and you can hide behind those to avoid the instant kill attack. You can only do it twice though.
yeah i mean it seems if you keep bating his attack up close he doesn't do the one shot. I managed to get through the fight with knife by hitting until phase 2 and just bating hits till the RL
