Guys,
One other thing, the runs made by "AFB" are not made by a real person, those are TAS. I made a video here with more explanation: Replay Burners is a channel filled with anonymous perfect runs made by TAS.
Gemma Euphoria should have the World Record for Goal A.
I agree with this. I've found a bunch of fake inactive profile that link to that YouTube channel. I can confirm this
I can remove those runs because people feel strongly about them and it is indeed very easy to make tool-assisted runs like this (I'm looking at you, World of Longplays).
The fastest runs on SRC aren't necessarily the fastest runs ever done since people often don't submit their runs to this site for various reasons.
It is, however, 100% possible to drive like that even on an actual arcade cabinet:
Good points, TC. I agree with most things that you have said and thanks for making that video.
I'd just like to add a few things, kinda feel it's still discussion-worthy. In their defense (Replay Burners), they do have a lot of legit plays. I don't follow them super closely, but they tend to upload some playthroughs or even speedruns from some verified players. The beat 'em up plays usually look legit and you can find a lot of names that they credit, good example that comes to mind is a Korean arcade enthusiast named Janet who is known to set some records even on the original hardware and I'm pretty sure you won't be seeing him ever fiddling with any TAS footage.
The Sega super scroller "speedruns" always looked insane to me, but I was just thinking it's some crazy JPN players who have been grinding since 1986, lol.
There's a lot of crazier things happening on SRC, believe me. Mods sometimes try to find the best plays to showcase some optimal play and strats since there's just a few runs out there, and to be honest - for any plathroughs or even speedruns from 11 years ago - facecams, handcams, input displays and splits were just not the norm/standard yet. JPN footage is pretty difficult to verify too, since a lot of times you have real players but it's a different part of the world and you can't expect them to use the same platforms/social media like the US/EU players.
But yeah, it doesn't make much sense if those runs are held as the very best and are considered as the WRs, if you have other people who actually put tons of effort but are not considered WR holders just because they can't beat TAS plays.
While I do agree the Arcade cabinet offers more precision, the runs from Replay Burners (especially the Gear Gacha ones) are inhuman. Check them closely, you'll see, it's even more precise than what you just shared. Even moreso when you know it's from MAME and not using a real steering wheel like MID did. And AFB is 2 seconds if front of MID on Goal D... It looks 100% like a TAS run to me and Replay Burners declares half of their videos as TAS already.
Channels like Replay Burners and others (AL82, ...) are just hoarding faceless runs uploaded anonymously from sketchy accounts that no one knows.
If it's a YouTube channel with one single YouTuber or Twitch streamer with his own Speedrun dot com account it already seems a little more legit but I wouldn't trust any of these websites gathering runs from anonymous accounts for views.
Think about it, if you work so hard for so long to get a near-perfect run and a WR, you'd NEVER upload that on a sketchy channel like Replay Burners. You'd have a YT channel like MID does, who is a well-known die-hard OutRun fan.
I'll leave the final decision in the moderator's hands but, personally, I would not upload face-less mic-less videos [especially medal runs] unless, at the very least, they are from members of the community that we can interact with.
Another proof that Replay Channels can't be blindly trusted, "RetroLongplay" is currently running a Tool-Assisted Marathon right now on Twitch and they just ran TAS of Super Hang-On, Rad Mobile, OutRun Genesis, OutRun SMS, OutRunners Genesis, Virtua Racing, OutRun 2019, OutRun TG-19, OutRun Saturn and many more! Link: https://www.twitch.tv/retrolongplay
Of course both of the are TAS . Tool assist is soo dumb. Il ha e to check out some of those runs just so see myself, also al82 retro long playthroughs youtube channel description mentions video editing as a part or putting deathless runs together for clean run reasons. There form admitting to save states and editing runs to perfection. Id really be happy to see those runs Removed
So, what's the final consensus on this? Are the Replay Burners records getting removed, or they're staying?
Anything from replay burners, al82 retro long plays and retrolong plays should be removed imo. I noticed a few runs were removed on super hang on arcade Al82s runs.
I agree that some of the "gear gacha" runs featured on the Replay Burners YouTube channel are questionable. They were likely tool-assisted, as the execution seems a bit "too perfect" for a human.
However, I believe that one submission by AFB should NOT have been removed:
Goal D - No Gear Gacha - AFB - 4:42.12
In my opinion, the run is perfectly valid (see video below):
I don't see anything wrong with this run either, but the majority here doesn't seem to accept this or the other runs if AFB doesn't submit them to the leaderboard themselves and somehow demonstrate they're capable of doing runs like that.
At least people now know that all those runs exist despite not appearing on this site.
