Hey There, I'm Planning On Doing Some Speedruns Of This Game One Day And Was Hoping To See If You Guys Have Any Guides For What Characters And Vehicles I Should Get
My Main Plan Is To Do World% So If You Have Any Recommendations For Specific Characters And Vehicles, It Would Be Extremally Appreciated
I haven't done any adventure world runs, though I've completed the game 100% twice and am working on a third. I also don't have every character and gadget, but I looked through the ones I do have just in case I ever want to get back into speedrunning.
These probably aren't all the best tags, but they seem good enough in my experience.
Useful characters:
- Eris - CHI Flowers in the Legends of Chima world [hiring Cragger is almost always faster than finding a CHI Fountain in other worlds, and hiring can complete the underwater one in the Chima world without needing a refill].
- Chell - Only character with a portal gun.
- Sonic - Can complete most ground races faster than a vehicle, needed for most "Sonic races".
- Newt - Only lockpicking character, fastest repair.
- Ethan Hunt - Fastest drone, quickly destroys silver objects without a vehicle, can shoot multiple targets.
- Finn - Shoot targets and pole vault (if there's an alternative to the war elephant below, Finn can be substituted for Legolas as a cheaper alternative if you only need the target ability and don't plan to play the level pack; Eris also works for this as long as the world doesn't have a CHI Flower brick)
- Abby Yates - Faster ghost catching than Peter, don't need the Ghost Trap gadget, only character who can transfer electricity.
- The Doctor - Can use hacking terminals, second fastest repair
- Slimer - Flight+boomerang, needed for a few gold bricks.
- Scooby-Doo - Fastest digging, one of two characters who can do underwater tracking (the other is Beast Boy, who's a lot slower).
- Wonder Woman - Underwater mind control, grapple, and boomerang (if you can put up with the Wonder Woman theme every time she flies and slowly swims).
- Bubbles - Cheap flight+rainbow object option, no delay when transitioning from falling to flying, fast swimming, can use Aquaman and lantern construct panels, can use parseltongue doors.
- Buttercup - Faster than using the Gyrosphere gadget.
- Raven - Only character who can use Raven Portals, can shoot electricity, has the shortest flying transition of flying magic users.
- Chase McCain - Scanner, grapple, and tracking all in one.
- Excalibur Batman - Batman with Master Build (could be helpful, idk).
- Superman - Invincible, fast build and destruction without needing the red bricks, no delay when transitioning from falling to flying.
- Supergirl - Same as Superman without the Content ID triggering flight music, an expensive alternative, Red Lantern transformation can use grapple hooks (not sure where this would be helpful).
Gadgets with useful upgrades and their associated characters (there are others, but I left out several "duplicates"):
- PPG Smartphone [Blossom]: Instant gold laser blowup + swarms cut vines
- NinjaCopter [Zane]: Instant flight docks
- Emmet's Excavator (second alternate build) [Emmet]: Instant digging + tow bars + accelerator switches
- Cloud Cuckoo Car (first alternate build) [Unikitty]: Instant watering + flight docks
- Jakemobile [Finn]: Swarms cut vines + instant tow bars
- Sonic Speedster (first alternate build) [Sonic]: Spinners destroy red objects + vehicle can cut vines
- G-6155 Spy Hunter (second alternate build) [Gamer Kid]: Instant gold laser + instant aerial tow bar pulling
- Batmobile (first alternate build): Instant tow bar pulling + accelerator switches + sonar
- Drill Diver [Bane]: Instant drilling + digging
- Lumpy Car (first alternate build) [Lumpy Space Princess]: Instant accelerator switches + is a flying car (idk if Harry Potter's flying car has the accelerator upgrade, would be cheaper if it does; not strictly necessary but it makes quickly using the switches much easier)
(continued)
Gadgets with helpful abilities in certain situations and their associated characters:
- Ancient Psychic Tandem War Elephant (second alternate build) [Finn] - Fastest underwater drone deployment
- IMF Scrambler (second alternate build) [Ethan Hunt]: Underwater cargo hooks, flight docks, and tow bar
- TARDIS [The Doctor]: Required for TARDIS panels, almost always faster to use it instead of clipping out of bounds in adventure worlds (aside from maybe Teen Titans Go)
- DeLorean (second alternate build) [Marty]: Has a "missiles destroy silver objects" upgrade, might have the shortest boost cooldown.
- Companion Cube [Chell]: Required for certain buttons.
- Skeleton Organ [Sloth]: Required for organ docks.
- Tornado [Sonic]: Can clip through ceilings (not sure how useful this is in adventure worlds).
- Arcade Machine [Gamer Kid]: Aside from clipping out of bounds (not every puzzle can be skipped, some gold bricks aren't collectable until you complete the puzzle), LEGO Batman Movie world requires it for a gold brick.
- Emmet's Excavator (first alternate build) [Emmet]: Can throw boulders at airborne cracked walls (I think only The Final Dimension has this; Cyborg also works)
- Slime Shooter (second alternate build) [Slimer]: Destruction over a wide radius, takes 5 seconds (not sure if this is faster anywhere, maybe it makes some of the "Defeat # enemies" quests easier?)
- BMO: Through a glitch with Jake when hired, it's possible to save BMO to a gadget tag without needing a Jake tag. Required for BMO docks.
For any franchise without a level/story pack and doesn't have a character/gadget listed above, go with the cheapest character tag. Also, completing the story packs is required in order to 100% their adventure worlds. Quests cannot be started until the pack is finished.
Thank You For The Tips!
I Will Defiantly Take All Of These Characters, Vehicles And Gadgets Into Consideration For Speedruns Once I'm Able To Acquire A Capture Card, Upscaler, Toy Pad And Copy For PS4
I Have The Gold Bricks Written Down In A Google Doc For The DC World (The First One I'll Run)
And Yes, I Checked The Rules, Any Gold Bricks That Need To Be Gotten By Collecting All The Minikits From A Story Mode Or Level Pack Level Are Not Needed (Ex. You Don't Need The One From The Machine In Painting The Town Black To Do A Run For The DC Comics World)
Aw Man
Well, I'll Still Continue Planning (When I Feel Like Studying A Video Of Someone 100%'ing The LEGO Movie And Lord Of The Rings Worlds To Get The Gold Bricks Locations And How Much The Restorations Cost)
I'll Probably Also Do Some Test Runs To Get A Good Route For The DC And Lord Of The Rings World Since Only The LEGO Movie World Has An Actual Speedrun For It
I have a few Worlds runs done, but they were a few years ago, Excited to see someone tackle this!
I'm Excited To Do Them
Who Knows, Maybe This Will Inspire Someone To Also Try The Category Out
It'd be easy to get 1st for some year 2 worlds because nobody's attempted to 100% those worlds. Examples: The Lego Batman Movie, A-Team, Powerpuff Girls, Teen Titans Go!, The Goonies
