Hello! I'm NoiceGood, and we need YOU to give us ideas on how to time a phase! A phase is when you warp through a wall. Examples are here:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1q0y2ythfmA
Phases happen in places with two walls close together, and an empty space on one side to warp to. The O phase is special because it's the only phase that has 100% accuracy if you follow the precise steps. The other two are pretty inconsistent at best. The steps are in the description of the video. So far, I've found 3 levels where phasing is possible, which I've shown in the videos above. If you've done a phase that's not any of the three above, report it here hopefully with video evidence. If you think a phase is possible and has not been found yet in any of the levels, also report it here. Now, to the topic of the thread. How should we time a phase? So far, there's been two ideas:
-
The time ends on the first frame you start to phase into the wall. With this idea, you could just slightly phase into the wall, which would be significantly easier than a real phase.
-
The time ends when you've been inside the wall for 400 milliseconds. With this idea, runs where you phase really quickly in and out of the wall would not count.
-
The time starts on the first frame you phase into the wall but the run only counts if you continue to stay in the wall for 400 milliseconds.
Note: when contributing an idea, try to format it like the two above. good ideas will be added into this post, alongside them. when enough ideas are gathered, we will make a vote.
This is how the vote will be like: https://www.speedrun.com/redball1/news/k06v756m
Original post by me discussing with @JumboSheep about the stuff above: https://www.speedrun.com/Infinity_Platformer/forums/bvgsq
what we could do is a mix of both, so basically the time stars on first frame you phase into the wall but the run only counts if you continue to stay in the wall for 400ms
since no-one is suggesting ideas, I have decided to lock this forum to move things forward.
