Currently the run starts when you hit the continue button and ends when you hit the jumper counting everything in between. I'd like to suggest that all black loading screens in-between/before/after levels be excluded from timing as this puts a performance requirement on a good run. Many other games have this in place already, and this game is already at the point where it can add multiple seconds to a run and make a significant difference.
I may be wrong and this should be answered by a mod too but I'm sure there probably will be something put in place when the full game is released
we have talked about this in the discord server and the devs will be adding it to the in game autosplitter. currently there are no plans to change the demo rules, as it is just a demo and there will be yet more changes to the rules when the full game comes out so its easier to just wait until then 👍
Alr, if that is only for the demo then I suppose it'll be fine. I'd love to see these demo categories in the final speedrun.com page with the new changes
