In Sly 3 there are three types of techniques Sly can do to make some kind of ground on places it shouldn’t be. Be aware that the “artificial ground” do not have the same abilities as normal ground does. Sly cannot do everything that is possible on normal ground. With that in mind let’s talk about the three foundation techniques, which are:
SQUARE / TRIANGLE ON SLOPES AND HILLS:
INPUT: Square/triangle
WHERE: On slopes and hills Sly normally isn’t able to stand on.
WHAT THE TECHNIQUE DOES: Square/triangle on slopes and hills is used to make “artificial ground” on hills and slopes Sly normally isn’t able to stand on for a short period of time. This allows Sly to use some of the gadgets on slopes and hills.
EXAMPLE WITH A GADGET: Sly can use Feral Pounce after this technique to climb up places he shouldn’t normally be able to. Just press square/triangle on slopes and hills Sly normally can’t walk on. Then press Feral Pounce. I use triangle instead of square in the video underneath just so it will be easier to see what’s going on.
SQUARE MID-AIR:
INPUT: Square
WHERE: When Sly is in the air.
WHAT THE TECHNIQUE DOES: Square mid-air is used to make “artificial ground” in the air. This allows Sly to use some of the gadgets mid-air.
EXAMPLE WITH A GADGET: Smoke Bomb in the air. To do it press square mid-air + the gadget Smoke Bomb. Sly will get the “artificial ground” from the mid-air square technique, which makes it possible to use Smoke Bomb mid-air.
FURBALL JUMP:
INPUT: Square/triangle + X
WHERE: Mostly from things Sly can use his super sneaky thief move on as well as standing. That means spires, ropes and such things. It does not include climbable things, flagpoles that launches Sly up and such things. (In some cases, Sly can use this technique from these things, but for the most part he has to do the Furball Jump after you press the circle button, but right before he actually lands on the thing).
WHAT THE TECHNIQUE DOES: Furball Jump is used to make “artificial ground”, mostly on things that Sly is using his super sneaky thief moves on. This allows Sly to use some of the gadgets from spires, ropes and those things.
EXAMPLE WITH A GADGET: Sly can use the gadget Rocket Boots from ropes. Press circle to land on the rope. Right before Sly actually lands on it, press Furball Jump (square/triangle + X), and then press Rocket Boots. I use triangle instead of square in the video underneath just so it will be easier to see what’s going on.
The whole idea of these techniques is to make some kind of ground so Sly can do other stuff from that. They are the bases of other tricks.
