How fast you can kill the bots without missing too much determines how fast you'll complete the tutorial. So the better your aim, the better your time will be. There's also some slight bullet-bloom rng. You can also watch the top times to see where to position yourself.
For when you have to "follow" tracer, start at the bottom of the stairs like in the top runs. You can hear 7 footsteps before she blinks towards you. Once you hear the 7th step, you can start walking towards the big door.
When the big doors open, jump through the white line of the Overwatch logo, on the left side. That's the part where you can get through the fastest.
First bot, just shoot as soon as it comes out and melee when it gets close. Then immediately position yourself to the right (like in the top runs) to get ready to shoot the first group of bots.
After that, you'll have to use "Sprint" - use it as soon as your hear the ding. It'll make Athena's voiceline start right away. If not, there'll be a very slight delay before she starts talking.
The other two are self heal and helix rockets. Spam your self-heal ability as soon as you are hurt, and shoot your helix rockets as soon as you see the metal cover go down.
Next is charging your ult, which has the biggest time save.
Then using your ult. It's best to not have to reload. You can do this by shooting the first bot a little, then helix rocket right away. Then shoot the top bot, then the last one. When switching your aim to a new bot, don't keep holding down primary fire, there's a chance that you'll have stray bullets. So shoot, kill, stop. Shoot, kill, stop, etc. very quickly.
Ah yeah this is where I found the discord lol
He's cool, he's one of the main speedrunners in our discord. The parkour maps are really fun and always active in the custom games.
4.0 is probably the only one that seems like full hero speedruns would be fun. 4.1 and 4.2 are longer and more difficult, that's why I've been only doing individual speedruns.
Ended up creating a new category for it: Any% (Cutscene Skips)
For the Practice Range run, you can delete your duplicate run on your own. Just click on it, and there should be 3 dots or something on the side, you can delete from there.
Ok, well the supermod for the game I'm running made me a mod, since there aren't many runners for it and he doesn't run the game anymore. I found time saves by doing that method, but just wanted to be sure if it was generally acceptable in Any% runs. I made a poll in the game's forum, to see if any previous runners have an opinion on it. If no one responds by Friday, I'll add it to the rules as allowable. :)
Since I've been made mod, I'll start a poll for any runners of this game/series. The save/load cutscene skips don't skip any of the game's puzzles, and make the speedrun a little shorter.
So far, to allow it on the main category:
- I'm for it
- supermod Bigmanjapan is against it
We could also allow it in a 2nd category, if runners vote for it.
If no one replies/votes by Friday June 14, and since Bigmanjapan doesn't run this game anymore, I'll allow it on the main category.
EDIT: All right, I'm gonna allow it :)
Hi, I was just curious (for Any% runs), is it usually acceptable, while doing a run, to create a new save file, then immediately load that same save file? This would be to avoid cutscenes in a game, that otherwise are not skippable by pressing any key.
It basically would skip an npc animation.
I was wondering if we could add Individual Level speedruns?
It would be: Planet 1 (Home) Planet 2 (Mushroom) Comet Planet 3 (Big Tree) Planet 4 (Volcanic) Planet 5 (Monk)
The timer could start as soon as you click to exit the spaceship and it would end as soon as you click up to leave the planet/comet from the ground.
Home Planet, the timer would start on first click and it would end when you click up to leave the planet after returning the knife, or it could end as soon as you click on the last item to take to the engineer, since it's all a long cutscene after that.
Ok, so I tested it out any many other parts of the game and it only seems to work during the mandragora cutscene.
Basically, once he gives you the mandragora back from the tea kettle, you create a new save file from that spot, and immediately load that save. Once it loads, you'll already have the tea kettle in your inventory, pretty much avoiding the cut scene where he tells you how to use it. It saves about 40 seconds! Sub 44 min is totally possible with this strat, especially if you have good RNG on the intuitive puzzles.
Allowable or nah?
Hey are we allowed to create a new save file and load that same file while doing a run?
There's potentially a cutscene skip this way (maybe more).
Here's what it looks like:
EDIT: I found more skips. One on Home Planet and another on Volcanic Planet. None of the skips interfere with any of the puzzles. They just skip cutscenes.
FearWolfz told me to ask here XD But yeah I was thinking the same thing about maybe making "Overwatch Workshop Modes" - instead of putting em under Category Extensions.
Hey so I'm pretty sure we all know about the workshop modes by now. There's a lot of cool ones we could do like Hammond Racing (already has in game timer with milliseconds and splits), Parkour Maps, Dva Racing, etc.
There are some that are pretty popular and could be viewed as "official" once the creators decide they're done customizing the map/mode.
One that I like a lot is Havana Parkour, created by Cenlus. Here's what a potential run could look like:
Cenlus isn't quite finished with it, so it's not a submission yet. Is this something we could potentially add to Category Extensions? It'd bring lots more people into speedrunning Overwatch.
So for the Uprising rules, it says the time stops on the first frame of "Victory" but that's no longer there, seeing as they changed it to "Mission Complete."
But my main question is, could we just make it so that time stops on the first frame of eliminating the final Orisa? Seems better since the game ends as soon as she dies.
Edit: Actually first frame of Mission Complete is fine lol. Never mind.
Is there any way someone could be awesome enough to make auto splits for Storm Rising, Retribution and Uprising? :)
Would be sooo useful.
