Been running game for a day or so, tas:ed around and stuff as a n00b. And here's what I found out:
One of the rng is set by when you procced past the title screen of the game, what you do after that does not affect RNG as far as I've seen.
You can then advance rng to new spots by exiting and entering the "town". Rng keeps going if you press reset, so if you wanna set rng, you need to hardreset.
Reason I share this is cause the WR of this game becomes extremly suspicous when you understand how the game works. I cannot say if they did cheat or did not, but would claim the video not including the starting screen is enough to ban the video. Very easy to create a save state, load it, and start the recording.
And the second thing that makes it more suspecious is month 2, they enter the town, exit right away, cause that is faster, but then accidently enter the town a second time, and does not, even tho it is faster. One could sum this up to "f it, I'm just gonna eat the small time loss", but that also sets up the rng for the rest of the run this one decision.
Like I said, don't know if the person did cheat, but unless they have a session video I would say the chances are there.
Also this goes without saying: Always have a reset/power on included with the run you are doing. So many cheaters that get exposed that don't do that. a simple reset prevents so many possible ways you could be cheating, so please include it :)
I actually completed a run a few years ago. I only have the split file tho cause I always planned to come back for the real WR. Maybe if you can decode anything of the stupid split names I have you might find some strats.
I thought my time would get crushed once one of you good runners came, but damn! GG
Seems way higher than the original timed run, only being 1.5s faster than old(should be somewhere between 2.8 and 3.1 - Sm_Izumi
Video lost, original time submitted rounded up to closest official console timing rounded up - 174 loading frames(shortest load) Lovv RottDawg
Twitch runs: hyo24 JoePulito smartalec24 buffalax Hostile Retro_Omega YoBGS bowtie1320 sharif
Also decided all times that are not under 10 seconds I'm just doing full seconds for, did frame count them to make sure they were correct second tho. Will update the rules right now and make a video for future frame counting to help mods keep a concistent framecount(saw many times the frame counting was different between runs) so we can have a good guide.
Let me know if anything seems off, and I'll try and get a closer inspection on twitch runs in the future, but happy to be done with the big overhaul that was needed :)
Noticed while changing the rules that another rule existed before:
"Runs must start from the title screen, NOT from the in-game menu, as each has a different delay before control."
I have nothing against this staying, but with new timing rules the reasoning does not add up, however changing it you could possibly(I haven't tested myself) let the rng timer run to get even faster times, so I think we could just change the wording of that rule.
Did top 20 in a batch today, so some things changed in the top 20, including that Rayquaza did not lose his WR(for people interested in WR History) until 2022 december.
There are a few videos I will do again after going through all tho, cause somewes doesn't 100% like twitch vods. The following from the first batch I will download the video and double check once all is done:
Bokonon_Lives, lackattack, Rayquaza911, ShesChardcore, MaquinaTV, NESCardinality
Over the next days or week(many runs, might need rest) I will be retiming all runs on the board.
Reason for this is due to PRG0 and PRG1 having different loading times when board appears, which usually would not be an issue in most cases, but cause the fast version does not work on powerpak I feel this is a legit reason.
So Board might look messy for a few days, but going from top to bottom, and will update here whenever I've done a batch :)
Also posting this in case there is something I'm missing with the new timing rule:
Timer starts when cursor appears. Timer does not stop on checkmate. Timer stops on first frame the box "Black is checkmated" appearing(Grey line).
If you have any objections or suggestions feel free to add them :)
I change the times of the top 5 times to be in line of the actuall Console frame rate and not the flat 60.1 that made times be a bit slower.
Due to seeing several cases of runs being faster or slower than the amount of frames played on emulator, I will for emulators from now on only accept 60fps video, with frame counter, and times will be calculated on the frames shown it took.
For console, I'm gonna use the video length to determine time however as normal.
Edit: Might do more whenever I get more energy, but I think top 5 is the most important right now :) But if anyone wanna go through more let me know and I'll mod :)
Great to see you are back at it and disabling the L+R setting :)
Sounds good!
Just gonna use this topic to also say that I think we should have the "complete the game" goal as the main category. Having 1 fight as the main category seems a bit off, when the games has a level up system, a progression system, and more. We should list them in decending order of completion rate of the game imo, to give people more reason to actually play the full game.

Remember there are different rules over there, proof standards, etc. I haven't kept up with the site, but hopefully people can still create accounts and go for IL times over there :)
With all the crazy activity lately, retiming will be interesting :D
If you feel confident doing it, feel free to edit the times correcly as well :)
I never did, one reason could be that this was done on my old computer, meaning the recording itself/stream could have been wierd. I was put in charge of this leaderboard after the old mod just disappear, so I'm happy with any kind of help I could get with retiming, cause I've never been good with framecounting... which is kinda bad for a game like this D: . As I was running with a frame counter, I just used the frames the emulator was saying.
But this is also on my to do list. Kinda wanna improve/tie with a console run in the very near future.
Yeah my highest out of 3-4 attempts was 58 I believe. I did notice, stalling until cops drive by once usually reset their "behavior". If you know how to wrap, I would recomend any time you get the edge of your own, wrap around, but do it all the way, so if you get hit, you don't lose.
After checking your video, it makes so much sense. I was trying to block and punch, not parry and punch. It seems like a parry+quick punch is fast enough to get pass any blocking the cpu can do.
With this knowledge I'll try again tonight to see if I can beat it.
There is no level 10 or level 100 in this game. It caps out at level 9.
I got back to this, and tried doing the 100% completition... I got to round 50-55 every time, after that the cpu AI just reads your input. So if you can manage a run for that, I'll add it defently. And I think we are talking closer to 50-60min at the end. 50-55 took me 20+.
Did however add Flag% for now and completed a run, so feel free to compete there :)
This happened to me during a practice run of a multigame race. So don't really know why it happened. Happened on Bizhawk with Genplus-gx core.
I guess in theroy it doesn't save time, but would maybe make wr attempts more concistent.
