You came at the right time. Earlier this year, the ROMs were dumped, you can either play them in a regular N64 emulator (some won't work), or wait for a proper emulator.
Hmm, OK, thanks. I just did a few tries on Sunny Beach 3lap, and I got 72nd place, so perhaps if I put some time into it this could be a fun speedgame for me. About accessibility: if only Everdrives or emulators were allowed, as the iQue Player ROMs were released recently... And, er... I don't have an AV splitter and my only capturing device has quite a lot of lag. Is there a better solution for recording?
From reading your threads, it seems like you're unsure whether running on iQue Player would be allowed. Has this been decided yet? For me it's either iQue Player or PAL through an Everdrive, so I'd quite like to know if this has been decided yet. A couple of notes on the iQue Player:
The CPU is about 1.5x the speed of the N64; combined with significantly faster RAM access, this tends to reduce lag a lot, if not entirely. Would this be important for anything?
"Burst access is actually faster than a real N64 cartridge, but 32-bit word access is much slower because it still requires the hardware to decode a full AES block each time." (not from these forums, don't worry) - I don't entirely understand this, but could it reduce loading times? Or make them slower, I don't know...
And in terms of other people with iQue Players that don't own the full version of this game so don't want to run it: we can reset demo timers now.
What region should the iQue Player release count as? China is PAL, but the system outputs NTSC... With the recent ROM dumps, and possibilities of injecting games on actual Players, this should be pretty simple to time.
You have to press the 'a' button ridiculously fast. We do this by remapping the scroll wheel to press it.
That sounds like quite a good idea. Should we change the Low% rules to become glitchless?
In some Flash games, specifically one where user-inputted text is displayed in a certain way, external .swf files that contain ActionScript code can be loaded and their code run. Other games may be able to use a loader to run code in a similar way.
Do you (pl.) think this form of ACE, which requires external files and a breach of copyright law, should be allowed? Obviously individual games have different rules, but I want to find out what speedrunners of other games think about this idea.
It's performed using Magic(tm), AKA signs in the level designer loading custom .swf files. Join the Discord server and I can explain it more to you if you want.
SM63 =/= SMBX. They are very, VERY different games. Given the completely different physics, an SM63 runner would probably find running SMBX equally as hard as running, say, Legend of Zelda. Also, this game has a LOT of possibilities for speedrunning.
Are we just gonna sort of keep having 1 more or less inactive supermod and 1 semiactive regular mod, or can I be upgraded :3? (Note: I'm not actually sure whether you can upgrade me or not...)
If you mash down while mashing A, you can select 'death' without having to slow down much/at all
Just got 3:02 any%, been playing this game for 1 day :D
I just found a better timer (hotkeys ^-^) so I might actually do some runs Edit: Not global :aagh:
I did a 'guide' for 100% (very basic), I can do one for any% too if you want
We really, really need a list of glitches/tricks/timesaves
OK, turns out the OOB thing going around the water section is ~5s slower than just going normally, so don't do that :P I think water first then haunted is slightly faster (idk why, I just think it is, someone should time it), and getting the statue after water is faster if doing that. Getting it before haunted makes that slightly easier, so do that I guess
Other games? My Windows laptop broke recently. On any%, death is significantly faster (more difficult), it would be good to plan a route to get maximum life (faster) and still not lose time. Did that make any sense? Yeah, death is completely useless in 100% now :P
If I do end up submitting any runs, I'll provide a link to download the video file, because I'm pretty much not gonna have any form of accurate timing - I can do accuracy to the second.
