Championship category rules have been amended from 'finish when screen goes black after race 6', to 'finish at crossing the line at end of race 6', as this was the way it has been timed in the top 2 current runs, and is the common way to do it anyway i.e. Mario Kart 64

The car REALLY wants to slide and slow you down, so the best bet I reckon is setting up the car to prevent this as much as possible. Max tightness and max downforce.
