Years back when I used to run this game and the community especially for arcade runners was small i started a Discord. I just checked it out for the first time in years and still a few of you active on there https://discord.gg/mTrP76K
Im so pleased that this game is still being ran and now with insane times I remember when there was only 3 of us running Arcade back then anything sub 20 was good haha. This title has evolved so much id never be able to compete these days but the fact it's come so far makes me proud
I noticed WiiUVC is listed but I cant see any runs or Cats for it is it a big no no then?
The Moonwalker Discord has been up for a while currently it's mostly just myself and Zenner in there chatting Arcade runs but its for all formats if any other runners fancy jumping in.
This is an odd question and i know it varies per game but i just really wanted to post this thread just to get an opinion from some of you if this is viable?
I don't have a capture card as such so when ive recorded runs from old consoles in the past the way i always do it is plug the console into a HDMI splitter then to an upscaler then HDMI out from that into my XBOX ONE and then using the XBOX streaming feature on Windows capture the footage there and whilst it does work fairly well, it can cause a bit of Lag its really bad for twitch obviously but just recording runs it can be ok.
However i always worry this may put me at a slight disadvantage at times so my new idea is to record the runs direct to VHS then capture the footage from the tape to my PC.
Now i know historically VHS recorded runs are acceptable but what i intend to do is add a timer on top of the recording once its captured this is easy enough to do but would it still count and would it cause any issues? Essentially id play back the file and start the split and end it at the same point as i was playing live and then overlay that on the recording.
The only thing i would say is it would give me a more precise split.
Like i said i just wanted to leave this here and see what others thought about the idea i haven't even tested it yet.
I have been running this game for years now, Recently with a bunch of new runners joining i figured it was about time to start a Strats and Tips thread. I am by no way the best player at this game i can be a bit gung-ho with it at times but i have developed a few strats over the years if you have any other please feel free to add them.

The most simple yet affective strat in this run is Charge Blasting multiple emenies at the same time the trick is to charge you shot and release it as soon as the bad guys spawn in groups or wait for them to get in line with each other.

Use Magic as little as possible there are 2 types of magic Dance magic and Hat Magic, Dance Magic takes 4 to 5 seconds and Hat Magic is 3 to 4 seconds so the more you use it the more time your burning some times its quicker to loose a life and respawn than to use magic dying / respawn is only 1 to 2 seconds if you can combine it with a few well timed charge blasts you can take out a group of enemies quicker than magic. The magic you use is a bit random usually based on the enemies on screen but i am sure you can manipulate it if find that pressing FIre and Magic at the same time seems to give you more of a chance to get Hat Magic i could be wrong but it seems to work sometimes so i always try if anyone knows more let me know.

Green Mech Guys are a pain in the ass they are the strongest most annoying enemy in the game the easiest way to kill them is with Hat Magic its an instant Kill but Dance Magic you will need to finish them off with a blast or 2

Corners at somepoints in the game you can get yourself into corners that will allow the screen to scroll before taking out all of the enemies good examples of this are on stage 2 destoy the sign to the alley and you can push yourself into the scroll. and on Stage 4 when the zombies come out of the wall you can push yourself into the robot graveyard. there are a few other instances of this throughout the game.

Lure Red Guys and Exploding robots you can take out all enemies apart from a red guy or exploding robot and they will chase you as the screen scrolls it shaves a bit here and there as you are not confined to one area to fight them.
this is just a start i hope others will add tips too to this thread and i think of any more i'll update.
Also a year or so ago i set up a discord for this game https://discord.gg/65y9uj
I have been picking away at the old MSDOS PC version for a while now and believe it can be speedrun even though it's hard as nails.
It's top down for the most part with some side scrolling shooter levels.
Any interest in adding this version to the list?
So i was looking for a new game to run and i had just rewatched Osmosis Jones and it sparked my interest in the GBA game Based off the tv spin off show Ozzy & Drix, it's a crap Platformer with only 4 levels, i figured it would be worth a shot.
So i started practicing and man this game is a mess and its hard as nails because how bad it is ive put some hours into it, managed to get fairly consistent with a couple of stages but others still frustrate the crap out of me, but then i am not that good at games like this, If someone is good at getting the hang of games with naff mechanics this could be a fairly quick run the last stage is a bit of a trawl though.
I think i am already about to throw the towel in on this one but would be interested to see someone else have a crack at it?
