Polytopia Community…

As we enter February 2022, the game of Polytopia is starting to change a lot. It now has been announced that the diplomacy update will be coming to Polytopia soon… Which will bring a HUGE change to the polytopia universe to the point where I think it needs to be time to make different leaderboards for different versions of the game… This honestly probably should have already been done given how the games AI has changed a lot over the past few years, but now that this update is in beta, we should prepare for when we make the differences in versions. Once version 52 comes out, it will most likely be time to make this change.

For those confused, there is a new diplomacy update in beta. This makes a whole new tech available, with 2 new troops and a totally different idea of play. Things can still be changed, but this is what is in beta:

• Peace treaties with AI (in shields tech, soon to be renamed “strategy”)
• New Diplomacy tech
• New capital vision ability that reveals other players’ capitals
• New embassy building, put into other players capitals and producing income for both tribes
• New cloak unit, invisible while moving, infiltrates enemy cities
• New dagger unit, spawns when cloak infiltrates a city
• New tribe info screen with more detailed info about your opponents
• Knight hp down to 10

These changes will result in heavy version differences, which is fine, but it means we need to establish the versions as different categories (something like 3-51 and 52+). This should be done after the update comes out, and remember, none of this is technically official, but this stuff seems too game changing for them to release a beta and then not use many of its parts. The doors are about to be open to a completely different realm of speedrunning, especially in the 9 Tribe and 15 Tribe categories. I am excited to see where this game ends up!
