As promised in the previous post, Any% Glitchless is promoted to a first-class category with each class as a subcategory. This is in recognition of a lot of attention on classes other than FOnewm that would otherwise be buried and hidden. Only the Any% categories were set like this (and Ep.2 only divided by the 3 class archetypes instead of each of the 12 classes) while all other categories remain as they were.
Speedrun.com offers a few options on how to manage this and while none are perfect, this seemed like the least worst overall based on discussions with several runners.
A few other categories were renamed and moved around, and some rules clarified around "glitchless" and other run requirements.
This completes the first major changes to the leaderboards in several years, but things can be adjusted again if need be. Please reach out on the forum, in the Discord server, or DM a moderator with feedback.
tl;dr: New leaderboards! See links below for ver1/ver2 boards. Glitchless any% class leaderboards soon.
Historically, all versions of offline PSO have shared this game's leaderboards. As PSO speedrunning has evolved, a lot more attention has been given on glitchless any% in recent years and competing with different subclasses besides just FOnewm or even other Forces. Reflecting this shift, we have been working to find a way to have the leaderboards more prominently show these runs rather than requiring class filters to see different runs from the same runner.
What we are looking to do is create class or subclass categories on Episode 1 Glitchless and Episode 2 Glitchless for "ver.3" specifically, and only those. However, this is impossible with how the leaderboards were originally built where the subcategories include a glitched/glitchless split and game version split--adding class subcategories would impact all of the others. speedrun.com graciously provides free hosting for our leaderboards, but has some limitations in being a "one-size-fits-all" service that doesn't fit our relatively complex model and desired boards very well.
In the first place, each version of the game is acknowledged as being different enough to warrant its own subcategories. In order to afford more flexibility with the leaderboards, "ver.1" and "ver.2" have been promoted to their own games.
If you follow this game, consider following these as well:
- Original "Phantasy Star Online" release for Dreamcast
- "ver.2" release for Dreamcast and PC
- PSO Series page for all three games
Some unused categories for DC/PC have been intentionally not recreated, but if there is demand then this can be revisited.
The reorganization of the ver.3 leaderboards is a work in progress and details are still being finalized.
