Howdy, I have been thinking about running this game again, but 100% instead of any%. Just wondering how many people would be interested in a 100% category for this game. Meaning you start the game brand new, beat every level, and unlock every car. I think only the mod can create new categories, but figured I would open up the discussion about it!
Yo I think that would be awesome. Having Any% as the only category is alright, but I think the addition of 100% is super valid and would be a ton of fun.
Obviously that's up to tinisteelian, but I think it's a great idea.
Yes you would have to do that as well I'd think.
I think it would basically just have to be: -Unlock All Cars -Complete All Levels (including secret level)
Hi! Sorry I didn't see this forum post until now. I changed my notification settings so I should see posts more easily in the future.
I added a 100% category like you suggested, I think it's a good idea! Let me know if you have any other suggestions.
I put some thoughts in the discord, but I figured Id put them here as well, since it doesn't seem clear to me which timing method should be the default for 100%.
REAL TIME Pros: -Optimal to use different cars for everything (no need to wait out celebration animation before each level) -The run is not a single full game category, but more separate and involves going into different modes, so it makes sense Cons: -A run with not quite as good driving can be faster with faster quitouts/more optimal menuing/hardware (Hardware differences need more testing to be done imo)
IN GAME TIME Pros: -The person who drives better will have the WR Cons: -Tied WR seems inevitable due to the nature of rounding to full seconds (just like with any%) -Use shadow jet exclusively once unlocked, waiting out the celebration effect and taking time to switch vehicles before every level. You can also take all the time you need inbetween levels. -Use just a single car probably for the initial unlock phase
Personally, my favorite part of the run is using all the cars, so I am more inclined to think that RT is better than IGT... I am a bit indifferent though and can see both sides.
My vote would go to Real Time since, unless I am mistaken and am remembering incorrectly, you don't need to finish the races to unlock some of the cars and can just do the objective and then quit out.
That is correct - although as far as I am concerned, the amount of time you spend in the intial unlock phase should count towards the IGT.
For example in Boxmen's run (he actually excluded these times from his IGT, so he really should have a 6:32, he also should have a 6:03 without these times), he got a 7s, 8s, 7s, 7s on the initials 4 stages.
It's actually possible to quit out on the second trick BEFORE the timer ticks up to 8s, but you literally only have a 1 frame window. It's a frame perfect trick.
I actually have gotten a bit consistent with it, but it's still a pain (but sick when you pull it off).
I think both timing methods are completely valid, but I think trying to lower RT is a much more fun category. Once I get a run I am happy with (7, 7, 7, 7, 55, 46, 45, 42, 1:10, 39, 1:05), I am going to do a run purely for IGT to show how much faster it can be and to compare them.
For the record, I have had two runs on flawless pace (10:26 RT/6:30 IGT), and both times I have gotten the "instant crash" bug on planet, killing the run immediately.
I really hope the hot wheels gods can bless me before I lose my mind lol.
Edit: 3 times now. I think it has something to do with the shadow jet. I am never using shadow jet on Planet ever again.
I agree that RTA is the best way to go for 100% runs. There's no easy way to choose RTA or IGT on a per-category basis, so I just removed the IGT times on the 100% leaderboard, which works fine. Feel free to put the IGT in your run's comment if you want to.
RT is still too inconsistent. A run could have the fastest IGT times with no mouse menu errors and still lose RT to a slower run because of computer differences. LukeRuff being a minute faster RT despite being 1 second slower on IGT comes to mind again. Going by the number on the clock as soon as you unlock the car and exit the track is a good way to time and doesn't devalue the run
For anyone not in the discord, boxmen, tin, and I just learned that hardware probably does not have the impact people think it does.
LukeRuff's video is an anomaly because he played on Mac, which for some reason locks the game at max fps which is normally not possible. Anyone playing the game as intended on a windows computer will have basically the exact same experience as each other.
Here is a comparison between my very good computer, and boxmen's not so great computer.
As such, I think everyone agrees we will be using RTA as of now.
There is more info about this in the discord if anyone is curious.
