I am wanting to start to do runs for individual levels, but remembered that it's possible to have different starting gold for each level based on what the player collected previously.
Do you think Gold available to spend (and characters available to use) should be limited for each level as if you were doing a single segment run, or could anything go for a single level run?
For instance, if you've beaten the game, you can replay level 2 with the halfling in full gear and zoom through leagues better than the knight during a regular run.
If you guys think that there should be a gold and character limit, I'd be happy to put together a proposal for list of constraints. I was thinking of working with "Total possible collected gold up to, but not including, this level", or I could simply make a list based on "available gold up to this point from a typical single segment run."
Alternatively, we could split it to "unlimited gold" runs and "limited gold" runs, but that might get a little wonky.... and the engagement is already so high haha.
EDIT: After thinking this over, I believe it might be best to limit the levels to 'What is available for equipment and characters when the level is unlocked". With this restriction, I believe even unlimited gold would have no bearing on the speedrun. Levels are already able to be completed with limited armor and weapons, sometimes weapons are never used.
So for example, that would mean on "Deserted Temple", you would only be able to play as the Knight or Huntress, and Sword / Axe / Hammer / Bow / Shield / Crossbow / Dagger / Armor would only go up to Long Sword / Short Axe / Morning Star / Composite Bow / Brute Shield / Dwarven Crossbow / Long Dagger / Light Armor Same with Bolts, Arrows, and Potions. They can use whatever amount of gold to equip anything with these constraints.
As for the hidden levels, Equipment available would be that of what is available after the level is first possibly unlocked. For instance, Forbidden Atgard is unlocked in Deserted Temple, and so available equipment would only be what is available after completing Deserted Temple.
The community is too small / dead-ish, and Individual Levels have never really been run, so I'm going to put what I had for my edit as rules for individual level runs, just to provide specifics on what makes a run fair.
Im down to run ILs at some point and limiting resources sounds like the more fun option as long as there is a proper ruleset but I also dont mind max loot to make it different from fullgame
I went through all of the Light Campaign individual levels and added rules for each detailing the equipment available at the time the level is unlocked, and the characters usable. Max gold makes no difference to me.
