Hi everyone, i am intrested too run this game in the future, my problem is now. i have a NTSC-j, can we use this version of the game too speedrun any% ?
You can, however the cauldron RBA method that you'd have to use is both slower than PAL RBA, and pretty hard to perform on n64 console. Plus the route would have to be modified based on level order and you might have to do the note door skips again to get back to CCW after you hit the CCW puzzle switch and supposedly reset. The reset and getting back to CCW probably would lose 1-2 minutes if you don't mess the skips up the 2nd time and then you'd have to do BGS, GV, RBB after cauldron RBA, in that order. Then you'd just fly to the red cave with the mumbo token that leads to the CCW lobby and just go straight to Furnace Fun. That's how I'd envision an NTSC-U / NTSC-J any% run working anyways. You'd have to fly a bit out of bounds in the BGS lobby as well in order to fly into the loading zone and avoid being stopped by mumbo in mid air which could either detransform you and kill the run or freeze you in place and make you void out if you happen to be out of bounds. A lot to take in but think about these differences and maybe consider if the differences and time losses are worth putting up with. As much as an NTSC any% run is kind of interesting, the similarities to PAL any% make it's worth questionable. I hope you found this helpful and good luck!
I thought about running 100% on NTSC-j, but then I realised that you need to learn Japenese for furnace fun, which is probably hard.
whait why do you need too learn that ( i a now playing casually first so i dont know the whole game yet) but i figured indeed that Pal is better for an%, so i am happy i still have my old console, but is NTSC j slower for 100% otherwise i just switch the back of the cardridges
NTSC-j is probably the fastest version for 100% by a few seconds compared to NTSC-u. PAL isn´t that much slower for 100%. Only the loading is slower but if you are as good as stivitybobo you can still get 2nd with the PAL version. The reason you need to learn Japanese is that you have to answer a lot of questions in the final part of every run, which is probably the reason nobody uses the japanese version. I´ll stay on PAL if I don´t get sub 2:10.
Termite Skip doesn't work on NTSC-J, meaning you'll lose some time (maybe a minute) in Mumbo's Mountain. You'll get a bit of that back due to text. See an XBOX run for the Mumbo's Mountain route without termite skip.
The latest addition to the leaderboard are Individual Levels! ILs are not meant to represent level segments of a 100% speedrun but instead focus on achieving the fastest time to complete the view totals screen for each level.
Here is some important info to prepare you for ILs:
