hello adventurers!
TLDR: you can downpatch the game, which adds in a few important skips (but removes a few other glitches) through the Steam properties window!
Version 1.1 released a few days ago, and unfortunately broke a few things that were extremely important for categories like Beat Hinterwald West. we're still exploring everything that it patched, but it unfortunately removed the early Overgrown Cave route we used to sequence break into Hinterwald West.
as for Any%, we're fairly confident that v1.1 is actually faster, as it added in a new glitch known as Zombie Mode, which allows you to walk on hazardous ground! additionally, it didn't patch a few large time saves, like Crystal Flying. Any% doesn't use the Hinterwald West early route, so the patch's impact has been minimal on Any% thus far.
now, for the substance of this post: how do you downpatch? Thankfully, the devs have added a very easy way through the Steam Beta branches for the game.
- Open the properties menu through Steam by right clicking the game in your library
- Click Betas in the list.
- In the Beta Participation dropdown, select the speedrunning option.
- Wait for the download to finish, and then play!
you can ensure you're on v1.0 through the pause menu. as of now, we will likely not split the runs by patch version. unfortunately, this downpatching method does not work on console, but due to the small community being majority on console, this fortunately impacts a small group of people. sorry for any inconvenience!
thank you, and have a nice slay!
hello gamers, the leaderboards are now open for submission. please make sure to read the rules for each category!
thankfully, we do have a very beginner friendly category in Beat Hinterwald West, which is about 45 minutes long as of this post. we hope to see some competition in each category, and that you can find something you enjoy.
lastly, if you have experience in making load removing autosplitters and would like to create a load remover for Hinterberg, please reach out to the mod team. thank you!
