If you're a part of the Discord community, you may know that one of the game's devs recently joined the server (and if you didn't know that, you should check it out!). Avouca and I were inspired to reach out to him and others after finding some non-functional development files.
So what were those development files? They contain an early developer build of the game. The audio was corrupted and the files were missing some components, but me and Avouca were able to rebuild the audio and reconstruct the missing pieces using PSX developer tools.
The result: a fully working dev build! https://archive.org/details/PSXDOGS_081600
It's been confirmed that this is an early build of the game from August 2000 (two months before final build), with placeholder voices done by the devs themselves. It’s a PS1 build, since that was the original version. It’s got unfinished material that might answer some questions about how levels were designed—or cause some more.
Enjoy!

We have a new home for guides! All the written and video guides are on the 102D Speedruns site, plus a collection of commentated runs, TASes, and other resources.
These are the same guides you can find here on speedrun.com, just organized so that it's easier to find what you need for getting started, setting up trainers, and learning routes.
This announcement is a couple months late, but we have a trainer for PS1 emulator! Made by myself and @Avouca, it allows you to practice tricks and explore levels similar to how DogThing does for PC.
With PSXThing, you can:
- load premade savestates to practice levels and tricks
- show position, speed, stats, and level progress
- view boss behavior in Cruella levels
- turn walls off
- enable flying, invincibility, and infinite roll
- end levels instantly
The trainer can't be used during runs, but it can be used to practice tricks, boss fights, and routes. Find instructions for setup here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1B1IUNbE7gHxNwOysCHTjDs0vUzd4LJii9ESLQaXolmQ/edit
Autosplitter by @Porky_ now supports European (German, Dutch, French, Spanish, Italian) and Scandinavian (Danish, Swedish, Norwegian) PC versions of the game!
The game version can be configured through the autosplitter config:
As you may know, there are 96 puppies to rescue in "All Puppies" and "100%" categories.
All puppies are trapped in crates. Whenever you tumble into the crate, that activates an unskippable cutscene. Each cutscene is followed by one of 24 different voice lines:
6 of them are met 9 times throughout the game, 9 of them are met 3 times, 6 of them are met 2 times and 3 of them are unique.
Each crate has a predefined voice line.
Recently, it was discovered that the duration of the voice line varies depending on the language. Here's a list of the total time it takes to watch all 96 cutscenes in one or another language:
German – 6m:44s English – 6m:31s Dutch – 6m:29s (PC and PlayStation only) French – 6m:18s Italian – 6m:17s Spanish – 6m:14s Swedish – 6m:03s (PC and PlayStation only) Norwegian – 5m:48s (PC and PlayStation only) Danish – 5m:47s (PC and PlayStation only)
Summary: Scandinavian PC version of the game with Danish language specifically is your choice if you want to run "All puppies" or "100%" category. We've yet to test if it's true for the consoles.
