New Moderators?

So I've never made my own forum about the verification times because I understood the whole situation. Firstly, many of the mods here straight up just don't verify, meaning that 9 mods is a deceiving number. Others are busy-- busy with school, busy with jobs, busy with other run ques (moderator in more than just this game), busy with their own speedruns, etc. Which is understandable, don't let moderating ruin your days. But no worries, the run que is only several hundred runs so that's fun right.

BUT

2 months is a little bit excessive... This is a game with over 12k runs and I understand that, but literally no run has been verified whatsoever in 3 weeks. And it was verified by Ivory, who recently announced he won't be doing much in the sr4 community very much. 0 runs in 3 weeks with ~100 active players gives me the very logical impression that things are going to get pretty annoying if this isn't announced.

I'm not like agh let's all hate the mods and bug them, because most the mods here have verified hundreds of runs-- many 20 minutes or higher-- throughout their time. But I, alongside others, would be very grateful if there were some new moderators added. It's been a while since applications, and new members have entered the community. I'm fine if the que really is 2 months if runs are consistently verified and the situation is given attention and is being attempted to be solved. But 9 mods, no verifications in 3 weeks and no attempts to get new moderators isn't that.

To summarize, please consider moderator applications. Thanks!

You should definitely bring this up in the official SR4 discord btw.

As someone who ran mod applications and saw what exactly happens right after that goes through, i will tell you exactly why we CAN'T do applications.

The process basically goes:

  • I released applications
  • Only 1 or maybe 2 people who applied would be eligible in the slightest
  • I added them and they started verifying some runs
  • After 1 month or less, they stop and never return

This has happened... at least ten times. You are one of the people who has done this. I'm not saying this to blame you or anyone else who's done this, but adding random people is not the solution, and honestly hurts the game instead of helping it. I've had a super busy month getting sick twice and back and forth to the ER for not being able to use screens for my eyes, so I've been away from this. There is nothing more mind-numbing than verifying runs for hours on end, and nothing I try makes it any fun or interest. The runs coming in has stopped phasing me at this point.

Usually, when I did do mod applications, I'd try to find someone who'd either played the game at a top level and/or someone who had a deep understanding of the game, and not just a random person who said "Let me verify runs please!". The problem is, honestly, this game is in a pretty bad state for the community, with no real interest except for random people doing 5 levels speedruns because the game is accessible to run. I don't think there are any suitable candidates to be added as moderator, so until something in the equation changes, it'll probably be a struggle for a while more.

A schedule might honestly be a pretty good solution. That way the 2 main mods who verify runs don't have to go through the 4+ hours it takes to verify runs. Of course this would only work if there will be an actual mod team that cooperates together and have enough people to verify. That way the verifying process for the mod won't be as exhausting as they would only have to do like at max an hour. This schedule wouldn't take up that much time for an individual mod and the verifying rate would still be the same. If not enough mods want to try this out I would be fine joining as a mod to try this method.

New game update (Sept. 2024)

Not just with level switching, but also with the addition of new levels (among other things)!! The old "All Levels" category has been archived, and now there are categories for 30 levels and All Levels (now that there are 45 levels in the game).
