Campaign Chapter 4 Guide - Any%
Updated 2 years ago by Nickel5

This chapter has no optional objectives. By convention, completions are called Any% runs. There is no 100% for this category.

Bullet-point checklist is at the end of this guide. Read this part before starting a run:

Before launching the game, disable all DLCs. This can be done in steam by right clicking the game, selecting properties, going to DLCs, and unselecting all. In one of the DLCs (I'm unsure which but I'm guessing it's Japan) the method the game uses for determining how fast passengers accumulate at a station changes, meaning that a train needs to wait at a station for a lot longer to transport passengers when DLCs are enabled.

I'm assuming for this that the runner will be able to set up supply stations and track signals without assistance, I'll also assume that the runner can handle track management at stations and figure out when a single versus a double track is optimal. I'll also assume the runner can handle when/where they should be placing maintenance stations.

This chapter doesn’t really have a critical objective; it’s more about allocating exact resources. The hardest objective is to deliver 3000 passengers from Louisville to Atlanta, so for that reason get all available technologies that increase the number of passengers. Additionally, your AI opponent won’t bid against you and you have tons of money, so bid away on techs.

Start off by building a second large station in Louisville, essentially your first station is for growing resources and your second is for the objectives. Then, build a weapons factory and upgrade it to level 3.

Get tech for the No. 51 Dragon train. The Rensselaer, and then focus on techs that increase the number of passengers.

Make 3 trains go from West Estate to the Big warehouse, one from Mason estate to the big warehouse, and 3 from the Big warehouse to Louisville. Set up a single train from Walker Estate to Louisville. Make Louisville to St. Louis and Louisville to Indianapolis a double track and set up multiple trains. Connect Indianapolis to wood (it’s far away but needed) and use 3 trains. Connect cattle and cotton to St. Louis. Additionally, between cities set up dedicated passenger lines (remove mail).

In Louisville, buy the chemical factory and upgrade it to level 2. Connect both coal and iron to your second station in Louisville, set up trains for both.

When it’s available, connect Nashville. Create one train that will deliver 6 cars of weapons, and only weapons, to Nashville. While this one is loading, duplicate this train. After each of these trains makes a delivery, delete them. It is critical to delete these trains or else it will slow you down on your next objective set. Set up passenger-only trains between Nashville and Memphis.

Start setting up a rail line that will connect to Jackson via your Louisville-Nashville line, connect it when it’s available. Similar to Nashville, set up 2 trains of 6 weapons. Connect Knoxville to Louisville, and set up 2 trains containing 6 weapons. Delete the Jackson line/trains after it completes. Keep the Knoxville line, but delete the trains after it completes.

Upgrade Atlanta to a large station, connect to Louisville along the Louisville-Knoxville line. Start setting up 4 passenger-only trains from Louisville to Atlanta. Have each leave the station when they have 8 trains.

Check your technology to see if you can get any that increase the number of passengers.

In Atlanta, split out the trail south of the city so that the SW track goes to one station line and the SE track goes to another. Start connecting all of the surrounding resources to Atlanta. Focus on ones that require no additional built lines first, like wheat and wood. From there, connect cities that have secondary resources, like beer, meat, and cloth, and then supply those cities with those resources.

In Atlanta, if there’s a useless industry you can’t supply, buy it and delete it. Prime ones to replace it with are a lumber mill, cloth factory, or a clothing factory, but it’s up to you to determine which factory is best suited.

Re-route the corn near Augusta so it can go directly to Atlanta instead of going through Augusta. Build stations to connect nearby fruit, vegetables, and milk.

When Atlanta hits 40k population, buy a second factory, focus first on getting a factory that you can supply and then second on getting a factory that supplies a required good. If Atlanta hits 60k populace before the passengers are all delivered, then build a tourist attraction.
