Hey, loved the game casually and was interested in potentially running it. I wanted to know if there were any major differences between consoles and PC. I mean like differences that make it very hard to compete in any% with PC (example: a glitch that saves minutes that doesnt work on console or something).
Im okay with minor differences that lose seconds (like having to take a slower route to complete an objective), just referring to stuff like if PC can skip a mission that console cant.
This couldve probably been shorter but I wanted to express exactly what I wanted to know. I hope its not confusing.
Thanks.
This change anything significant?
Im gonna do my first run in a few days so would suck if everything I just learnt gets fixed lol.
Omg I did it. Took forever to get the spacing right. Then I jumped off the bridge too early and died lol.
But I made it up there again first try the second time.
I wanted to know how you guys play MK. Do you play for fun online, or with friends offline? Or do you spend every waking hour in practice mode and travel around competing in tournaments?
Im the latter. Been competing in Mortal Kombat and Tekken for nearly a year now. Flying to another state next month for our last major of the year SXC (Souther Cross Championship). Ive placed 13th at BAM (Battle Arena Melbourne) and 13th at OHN (OzHadou Nationals). I am probably the best Ferra Torr player in Australia. I main Ferra Torr (Ruthless), Jason (Unstoppable, Relentless) and Reptile (Nimble).
What about you guys?
I might try a run on very hard tomorrow to see how it goes.
I just dont know what the viable fast strat would be. U cant braindead it like we do with blood god now. Because the A.I. specifically reacts to repeated actions. Their reactions are also non human. Its a far more difficult thing to theorize, and I dont see where the competition would be, its just RNG. But thats my opinion having not done it yet. Ill see how it actually plays out.
Ok.
If anyone wants a new category of dificulty post in this thread that you would also be willing to run such a category as well. Id say if people are willing to run it before a leaderboard is officially made then that would show theyre willing to put time into it rather than doing a single run and leaving. Better yet if people would record actual runs before a leaderboard is up im sure it would definitely convince us that it deserves attention, provided at least a few people do as well.
I also dont want people suggesting a new category so they can get an easy WR. Thats not what speedruns are about.
Does this sound good?
Thats my biggest concern, is well have a bunch of categories that maybe 1 person will run once and then will never get touched.
Maybe. I dont want to make categories for the sake of it tho. Feel like itll just result in a bunch of empty categories, as ive seen before. A leaderboard is supposed to provoke competition after all. Ill probs start with a hard category for both Story mode and for tower. If it gets attention we'll open up more. I would prefer adding categories that fundamentally change the run, whereas I feel stuff like very easy and easy are too similar.
For example, ive seen other games like Tekken have categories involving beating the arcade mode (the equivalent of the tower) with every character, or with say 6 or 10 characters. I feel like this changes the run in such a way that clearly differs it from the current standard. Like, Blood god makes the run super easy mode. But in say a 6 character run we would be forced to play other characters AND different runners would choose different characters in different orders potentially making runs unique (cuz as it stands, the current tower run is pretty much impossible to beat without being blood god). My only problem with this potential category is the fact that the end cinematics are not skippable, which is really annoying.
But as I keep saying I want peoples feedback on everything :P
Yeah. Hard in MKX the AI techs every single throw lol. Its just that the optimal strats do the same thing over and over, and if the AI blocks or ducks more than a few times the runs over.
That said, what difficulties would you guys Prefer? I dont really want 10 categories of difficulties. Unless I made them misc categories. I just dont see it being a popular run in MKX (becasue of how absurd the AI is).
Ill keep trying then. Ive been at this for 2 hours lol.
Hey. Im trying to do the high jump onto the pipe to go oob on quartu and for some reason the high jump isnt carrying my momentum while on that platform. But it does it fine on the ground.
This happened to me on Batalia as well but I found an alternate solution. Is this a 1.05 thing?
So its been brought to my attention by Joker that rules on skipping fights were not established when the leaderboard was first made. Ive only been a moderator for a few weeks and I definitely didnt think about it. Mostly because skip fight tokens cost real currency. Which would make the run Pay to win, potentially.
Theres the argument that you could keep creating new accounts to get the 3 free tokens but that would make the run far less enjoyable imo.
But im not gonna decide a ruleset purely on my own opinion. I believe it shouldnt be allowed. So for now Ill reject any runs using skip fight tokens and update the rules to include it, mostly because even if it were allowed it would have to be a different category, as those without skip fight tokens would simply be unable to compete. But Joker hold on to that run just in case people speak up in favour of it.
But please, Id love to hear peoples opinions on the topic.
I play competitive Mortal Kombat and Tekken. Speedrunning and Smite are my breaks from competitive fighting Games.
Why? I mean, if more people want it sure. But no point adding categories for the hell of it. Also, dont think Hard will be fun. We play on very easy so it limits the RNG. Harder difficulties have more RNG and will be 10x more frustrating to run. We'll just get to Corrupted Shinnok and hell beat us into the ground for 10 minutes. Doesnt sound like a good run to me.
But Id love to hear opinions.
Ive got other games Ive got to focus on. I ran the tutorials as a side project while I was taking the competitive side fairly seriously (I was top 10 Wraiths in Oceania in my prime). As the passion from playing multiplayer faded and the playerbase dwindled into nothing so did my desire to run the game, coupled by the fact that I had no real competition at the time.
The passion isnt there anymore, so running it now would be me forcing myself into it, like a chore rather than it being a fun project that I look forward to.
Now that I compete in Fighting games ive got even less time for speedrunning. (Thought I should give insight to why I stopped)
Do kinda wish more people got into it. Was pretty much a solo project for me when it came out. But its a niche run.
Ill hang around. And let me know updates and stuff.
I dont run the game anymore. I dont even play it tbh. Was fun while I did though. idk. Like, Ill chime in on stuff but I dont think Ill do any more runs (heh, more runs. I never really did a 'run').
