I moderate the ODC boards. When a run has no ms specified (null value), that run will be scored a higher position than a run that does have ms specified.
This is unfair, because this allows runners to gain positions simply by not showing the MS on the in-game timer. I feel rejecting these runs goes too far, but now I have to put an ugly '999' just to push a run to the bottom.
I would like to draw attention to the timing section in the rules and instructions for the leaderboards again. I am getting a lot of incorrectly submitted runs.
Real Time (with loads) for full game runs:
Timing begins when the 'Yes' button is pressed on the 'are you sure you want to start a new game' prompt.
Timing ends when the cutscene where the chef screams 'no no nooo' is skipped and the map ends.
Do not submit miliseconds for this time.
In-game time for full game runs:
This is the time listed in the top-left during the credits in the cinema and does include miliseconds. It can be enabled in the options menu. This time can also be used for ILs (the final miliseconds tally will be visible briefly during the level ending fade).
Real Time without loads:
Leave this blank. Speedrun.com breaks if it is disabled.```
And the addendum for console:
```Since these consoles have no In-Game Timer, no IGT is to be submitted. Use Real Time only. Because of this, timing may stop at the start of the final cutscene, rather than the end.```
Note:
Real Time (with loads) is NOT equal the length of your video. The video of your run should end up being slightly longer than this time as you show the menu at the start and the credits at the end. It is also NOT the time on your livesplit when you fail to stop it when the run ends and you leave it running for 2 minutes after the run is complete.
I understand runs being mistimed by 1 or 2 seconds, but I'm receiving runs that are mistimed by up to 20 or 30 seconds, sometimes even multiple minutes. These mistimed runs amount for perhaps as much as 50% of all submissions. Put some effort into this. So far I have fixed these issues myself when they showed up, but one day I will be in a foul mood and simply reject your mistimed run.
If you spot a mistimed run on the leaderboard, do not hesitate to let me know.
Some rules, particularly with regard to timing, have been altered slightly to reduce the amount of homework one needs to do when submitting runs.
All previous runs have been changed to reflect these rulechanges, and where applicable grandfathered in. Around 5 runs previously on the leaderboard have been rejected due to providing too little information to work with (eg no vod and no time submitted.)
To summarize, these are the rules changes: Timing will be done with 'time with loads / real time' and 'ingame time'. All consoles that support IGT must specify the IGT as listed during the credits sequence (for full game runs), or during the fade/circle to black at the end of ILs. This includes miliseconds. PS4/XBone does not support such a timer, so only real time needs to be submitted.
DO NOT BOTHER TO TIME WITHOUT LOADS YOURSELF. You'll just be wasting your precious time, do more runs instead ;)
Note: IGT includes the final cutscene where Chef screams 'no no nooo'. From now on, it is highly recommended you skip this cutscene for extra speed.
Real Time: No clear rules were specified in the past. A small community poll in the Discord server has established the following start and end points for the run:
- Start: When pressing Yes on the New Game confirmation screen.
- End: When the 'no no noooo' cutscene is skipped and the last map ends, in synchrony with the IGT timer. (Yes, this means that the final cutscene is now INCLUDED in the timing. Immediate skipping is recommended.) From now on, this will be enforced. Past runs have been given quite the leeway when it comes to this, which could cause inaccuracies of up to a dozen seconds between runs.
No Real Time needs to be specified for ILs, for both Console and PC. Instead, PC/Mobile runs can use the IGT as shown in the top left, and console can use the top times as shown in the level select screen. Please ensure these are visible at the end of the video.
Furthermore: I'm considering removal of the Shorts category. These two maps have been given their own IL already instead. For now, I'll leave the category until I decide, but it currently uses only real time, and no IGT.
All rules have now been written down in the game rules for quick future reference. Press 'show rules' at the top of each leaderboard.
I do not check these forums often, and I will forget I posted this. Please join the Discord server or contact us by other means of your choice if you have any questions. Thank you, and happy running! RBRBRBLRBLRBLRRBL
I'm sick of having my vods muted because of this bullshit music that does nothing. (Cult of Personality, Get Down To It) in stadiums.
I guess the same goes for casino music, although that's never posed an issue for me (yet).
I also did some tests and it seems reversing the track doesn't get it muted. That's fine too, keeps the filesize the same maybe. I don't care just get rid of this fuckshit
A = Allow B = Disallow
I vote A
Edit: Feel free to discuss. Nobody told you you can't. In fact, please do. Nobody told you you shouldn't, either.
I have noticed some activity recently, and I can't be bothered to keep up with SRR's horrible forums, but it is also unreasonable of me to expect people to contact me or Fish personally if they want categories added or have rules discussion or whatever.
So here's a middle ground option, a public Discord server: For all to join. It'll probably be dead most of the time but I will actually get notified if something does go on so that when someone asks for escape mode times or something, the mod staff will actually see.
Also for strat discussion/whatever
I read a lot online about how the Tenpenny Suite can be accessed from the balcony even if the Megaton bomb has been disarmed and you unlocked the Megaton house instead.
I have been trying a few things to make this happen for me, mostly just teleporting to the door repeatedly guessing there's some RNG involved, but with no luck. You know this game inside-out, do you have any ideas what could cause this?
I realize this isn't relevant to speedrunning, but if anyone would know how to make this work (semi)consistently, it'd be you.
From the rules: "and ends when you have passed all the missions that appear with a permanent radar icon"
End of the Line part 1 is marked with a permanent radar icon, however it isn't done. Therefore all runs that do this skip haven't actually met the requirements, since EotL p1 2 and 3 are actually separate missions with the same name and not one big mission.
We've added "GTA Category Extensions".
All your 'meme' runs go in here. This is only for true memers. Somewhat serious non-game-beating categories should still go on their proper game (like all collectibles etc)
B) B) B) is annoying. It makes making bulletted lists annoying.
Example: A) Item B) Item C) Item D) Item
Please keep this thread to voting only. Discussion can be done in the thread linked: http://www.speedrun.com/gtavc/thread/47zgt/1#p1deq
Options in alphabetical order: A ) Keep calling it ACE (Arbitrary Code Execution) B ) SCS (Store Clerk Skip) (or a variant) C ) SPV (Safehouse Purchase + Vigilante) (or a variant) D ) SSU (Script Stack Underflow) E ) Other, please specify.
Everyone is welcome to vote, even people who don't run GTA or viewers.
Alright, so the term ACE has spread confusion, mostly among other speedrunners/TASers, leaving them actually disappointed that no ACE happened in the run. So I'm opening a poll. Link here: http://www.speedrun.com/gtavc/thread/q1cl1/1#xxt12 . This thread is for discussion to keep it away from votes. Here are the suggestions, with explanations:
SSU (Script Stack Underflow) A catch all term that names the glitch by its root. This is exactly what happens with the glitch. Counterarguments: It is a technical term and might scare people away from learning the game. (How? Why? Do they really care if they are?)
SCS (Store Clerk Skip) (or a variant) While the store clerk waiting stuff isn't the actual glitch itself, it merely affects it, and can be bypassed by using chopper checkpoint instead. It is the most recognizable thing about it. I suggest clarifying in the leaderboard rules that the CC method of doing it would also be disallowed, if this wins.
SPV (Safehouse Purchase + Vigilante) (or a variant) The actual glitch involves starting Vigilante while buying a safehouse, so to my understanding this also names the glitch by its roots.
Keep calling it ACE (Arbitrary Code Execution) Keep it as is, and keep confusing all the people with the inaccurate naming.
All these people talking about their first speedrun blah blah blah.
BOOOOOORIIIING
Tell me what your second speedrun was!
So looking at the rules for Half-Life 2 and other Source games, I think the GTA speedrunning community is horribly old fashioned and we need to change that.
Back when the concept of WASD cheats was figured out, I think it was tuplanolla who ran a simulation of 100 million WASD key presses and the discovery was there's many different cheats (possibly in the triple digit numbers) that can be activated using only WASD.
Currently, WASD cheats are banned, but seeing as how Source / GoldSource legitimized the use of console commands in runs a couple of months ago, I think GTA should follow in their footsteps.
Now of course, we cant go and allow any and every cheat. They're still cheats. But with the accidental nature of WASD cheats, I think they should not only be allowed, but also utilized for maximum efficiency. For example: I think using DDDDDDDAAAAAADWD should be allowed when its raining, and AAAADADSAWADAW should be allowed for when you quickly need a vehicle (First Date comes to mind). These are just some examples, Im sure people can come up with others, as long as it only uses the WASD keys and nothing else. (Or if you're using ESDF, only those keys, or IJKL, or whichever keys you use for movement.)
Post your tiny shit here that doesn't really warrant it's own topic.
