Which website are you playing the game at?

The shortcut still exists on the "Kongregate" version. I also recommend playing that version, because there are no level previews.

If you compare the runs with 4+ minutes to the runs with 3 minutes or less, it looks like the players are running a completely different game.

That bunny-hopping technique/glitch (that gives super speed to the player) isn't explained anywhere, and I couldn't replicate it.

The game itself is designed to work on 800x600 ratio, and doesn't work on fullscreen. The best you can do is run the game directly in this link: https://v6p9d9t4.ssl.hwcdn.net/html/5787627/index.html

Then you can change the zoom of the browser window, and also resize the window to fit the game-window size.

Also, you could download all game files and make a stand-alone version on your computer; but it will be really hard for you if you don't know what you're doing. There is no reason for you to do so either.

You can look for web games in general in the games list: https://www.speedrun.com/games#platform=Web&orderby=mostactive&unofficial=on

If you like platformer web-games, you can look for games in my profile or @dha.

I would say that in-game cheats count as "cheating" only when they were not intended by the developers. An in-game cheat that is clearly allowed to be used by players, can't be cheating - it's up to the players to choose if they want to use it or not. In the context of speedrunning, it's up to the community of each game to decide how to handle it.

For example, Celeste have lots of accessibility options, and some of them completely trivialize the game difficulty (invincibility, infinite dashes). The main categories of the game don't allow accessibility options, but in the category extensions there are lots of game modes where everything is allowed.

Another example, In the Robot Wants It All leaderboard, there are in-game cheats you can buy with the game currency, like invincibility, super firepower or infinite jumps. In the ILs we separated the runs into "cheats" and "no cheats"; In the individual world categories we don't allow cheats at all; and in the main full-category of the game which requires you to get all achievements from scratch, we allow you to use whatever you want (after purchasing it from the shop, of course).

(I wanted to run Flower in the past, but it didn't happen yet)

I personally never like to use the spacebar key for gaming, because for me it's awkward with precise inputs.

I would maybe try that by binding the ctrl+spacebar to Z and X (or any two letter-buttons that are next to each other), as I am used to Z and X being action buttons.

As for hitting the keys at the same time:

  • You can put the index finger on X and the middle finger on Z, and push both of them at once by pressing the entire left hand on the keyboard.
  • Alternatively, you can put the index finger on the middle space of X and Z, and use the finger to press them at once.

@jackzfiml I don't monetize my speedruns, but some of them got copyright-claimed for small piece in the game's soundtrack. The videos even got ads on them.

It is possible to submit runs through the API. In fact, Livesplit has the option to submit a run in the splits editor of a game, under "Additional info" (I never used it myself):

But as @SioN said, it won't help you for this "game" because there are no categories.

First, some context for my problem:

The game LinQuest is a 2D platformer webgame, with 27 short levels. The levels start easy, but become a bit more complex as you progress in the game, as you need to handle cycles of enemies and moving platforms.

The way this game is built, some cycles are not on global cycle, or don't start when the character reaches a certain location - they start as soon as the relevant object is shown on the screen. However, this mechanic can be abused by changing the game resolution. If you do fancy stuff like making the game tall and thin, or short and wide, the game will try to accommodate for this by stretching the window and fill the space with all the objects it can.

For example, level 10 on "normal" resolution looks like this: https://i.imgur.com/lmUGlYA.png

But on short+wide resolution, the entire level is shown: https://i.imgur.com/fJGgQwh.png

In the example of this level above, the two platforms are supposed to move when the character gets close to them, but when the entire level is shown - the platforms move as soon as the level loads. This changes the cycle completely, and allow you to save ~1.3 second over "regular" gameplay.

The problem: Now, the main problem here is that the game resolution can NOT be standardized for different runners. The main "culprit" here is a modded version of the game that adds a level timer, but also stretches the game to the browser window size. But, even if you only look at "official" releases of the game, resolutions of the game are different in several websites - for example, the game size is different in Armor Games and in Coolmathgames. On mobile the game automatically works on fullscreen, but then it stretches according to the phone/tablet resolution.

All of this makes for strats/routes that are possible on certain resolutions, but don't work on other resolutions; which means those strats/routes can work on some platforms/devices, but not work on other platforms or devices.

The solution: Right now, because a constant resolution can't be enforced, the inclined solution is to just allow all runners to play the game on whatever resolution they please, as long as the game and speedrun timer are visible well enough. It might not be fair to some runners who can't play the game on custom resolutions for some reason.

This is the first time that me and other moderators in the series encounter an issue like that, and I'm curious if other runners or moderators had that issue in other games. If so, how did the community handle it? What would you propose to do, if you were a runner or a moderator of such game?

I don't think you can even delete those "purgatory" runs.

For example, in this game: https://www.speedrun.com/arzea I created a test category to check something, added some dummy runs in it, and then deleted the category after I finished with my experiments. The dummy runs are still on the site, they even show up on the "Recent runs" widget; and if I try to access any of them, I get an error message that the category is not found, and I can't do any further actions (even as moderator).

"Enforce MS" options doesn't work like that. All it does is ensure that submissions with 0 milliseconds will show "xx:xx.000" in the time column. (Instead of just xx:xx.)

The current way to handle it is to enable milliseconds in the game settings (which will turn it on in full-game runs and ILs), but state in the rules that full game runs should be submitted without milliseconds. If a runner does submit a run with milliseconds where they shouldn't, the verifiers can delete the milliseconds portion if necessary.

Yes. It was "hidden" in the resources all this time, and now I made it much more visible in the news, game link, and the IL rules.
