if someone gets an optimized time in it it could be added to the leaderboards
Sorry I'm late to replying, but yes, in all categories unless stated otherwise, you are allowed to setup a lot before a run
It's because PS2 emulators are not great at playing accurate to a PS2. Depending on PC hardware and emulator settings it could give a player either an unfair advantage or unfair disadvantage. I'm sure the mods have a billion other reasons why emulators are banned but I personally don't care if people want to run games on an emulator. Most older consoles allow emulators in speedruns because the experience is authentic enough, but the majority of popular PS2 speedgames ban emulators and probably won't allow them until PS2 emulation isn't broken as it is.
In the most recent WR run of max skills, the runner used the sim's aspiration points to buy rewards. Doing it during the run is fine since it's normal gameplay without cheats. However, I realised the player can use the aspiration points from their "Dummy Sim" for pre-run setup and buy rewards before the run. This would speed up the run. I don't know if anyone else thinks it feels like cheating at all, but since using Career Rewards obtained beforehand is allowed, I think it should be allowed.
these rules are fair enough, but would it be worth changing the rules to force you to show sim creation in the VOD? (even though almost every run on the board would be invalid after) Because I figured out a way to reset a run, quit without saving and move the sim out to reset a run, (It doesnt work well in categories that require vital objects) and then moving them back in as it makes the same effect as fresh out of create a sim, because the game has not realised the sim has been played, because you didnt save. Doing this can be banned if you guys think it should be.
Apart from using a VM, (if virtual machines arent banned) is there any way to play on windows 10?
The only Custom Content you may use is Create a Sim CC, as it gives no advantage or disadvantage, Any Custom objects e.g. Beds is not allowed, as it is unfair to someone using a vanilla game object.
PS1 Emulators are usually allowed on the leaderboards of more popular PS1 games like Crash and Spyro, as PS1 emulators have longer load times, which is a disadvantage. Is there a specific reason it is not allowed to be run on that I don't know about?
I don't see a problem with free will and I'm pretty sure most runners already do that.
If you go to the games camera settings you may turn off "special events camera" if you do this, all cutscenes will be disabled, and this includes the intro cutscene for moving into your house. This will give players an advantage. I think it should be allowed, what do you all think if it?
I have been watching runs of SHAR for months now and wish to run it, only problem is i no longer own either a physical CD of the game or a PC that has a CD drive in it. At a point where I am able to obtain both of these, is it worth it? All Story Missions looks fun AF and the strats and coin routes also are awesome.
I need help with The Sims 2 PC moderation. https://www.speedrun.com/The_Sims_2 So we only have one mod, the super mod, RotKiller. RotKiller ignores the forums of the game and the only real moderation he does is verify/reject runs. For example, months ago I asked for more categories, and even though people had agreed, it was ignored. I eventually got tired of it and I asked in the forums for more than one mod, with my brief reasoning being that moderators don't have the ability to always be available, so with more moderators there could be more activity, and runs can be verified/rejected. So can I please be made a mod so at least one person is active with the community? I have knowledge of the game as I have played it for years, along with the rest of the series, both casually and speedrunning.
it says, "All runs on the PC or Dreamcast releases of the game belong here. Emulator is to be checked if not ran from a disc."
does this mean actual emulators are banned?
I have a laptop I will be running this game on and will be streaming/recording it, and the specs are: CPU: AMD A4-9120 Radeon R3 (2.20 GHZ) GPU: AMD Radeon R3 Graphics (501MB VRAM) RAM: 8GB OS: Windows 10
What is an optimal FPS limit? 60 I would guess.
I know that nobody runs on console, but since there is such thing as backwards compatibility, which applies to SHAR, including: GCN: GameCube games can be played on Wii. Xbox: SHAR is backwards compatible on Xbox 360. PS2: PS1 and PS2 games are playable on early PS3 consoles.
For the few runners who do not run on PC, should backwards compatibility be banned or allowed?
I've run a few games here and there, I'm thinking of running this, what do you guys think?
