As of 2019-04-16, a couple major changes have been made to the structure and function of the leaderboard:

  1. Runs on Version 0.0.1.1 of the game have been placed into a category separate from runs on Versions 0.2+.

  2. The In-Game Time now has priority over the Real Time. That being said, the Real Time will still be listed for the full-game runs (or at least for the time being).

  3. The Real Time column has been removed from the Individual Level leaderboards.

Granted, there's probably not many people looking at this page much anymore, but figured I'd announce it all officially in case anyone got confused by the changes.

Perhaps a way to have a custom number of decimal places in the time, as opposed to only 3 decimal places? 3 decimal places is certainly enough for almost any game; however, 2 decimal places is also enough for any game that runs at or below 100 frames per second, which is most games, and some games are timed with an in-game timer only accurate to the tenth of a second. While of course you can still use these timing methods with 3 available decimal places, it can somewhat clutter the leaderboards of games that aren't timed with that level of precision (with the extra 0 at the end of every time). So, by allowing custom levels of decimal precision, leaderboards can be as precise as they need to be without any redundant zeroes at the end of every listed time.

Sorry for the delay (again), but it's a category now (the Inbounds subcategory) @SomeweirdDude

Went ahead and added your run to the leaderboards, you might want to make sure your camera focuses on the screen before ending the recording in the future though ;)

Driving into the poop pile (the brown triangle) immediately forces you to an extremely slow speed... it would be faster to just drive through the finish line normally, unless I'm misunderstanding what you're proposing.

@SomeweirdDude (also sorry for the late response) I'm not sure if "glitches" would be the right word for that, but if I understand what you mean, I suppose that could be an interesting run. If you wouldn't mind, it'd be helpful if you could do a run of that and post it here, just to see if it'd be different enough to warrant a separate category.

1-7. Labyrinth 01: You can trigger the finish line by passing it on the opposite side of the wall, saves maybe 5 seconds? (I haven't timed it) This is the only known skip in World 1.

3-2. Square Island: You can use a bounce pad to fly out of bounds and will be placed back inside the map past several obstacles, saving ~5 seconds per lap. You can also use a cheese right before using the bounce pad, which lets you fly even further, saving a total of ~13 seconds per lap. Both skips are shown in the video.

3-6. Bunny Hopping: You can use a bounce pad to jump over a wall and skip a portion of the track, saving ~5 seconds per lap.

4-1. The Snail's Island: You can use a bounce pad to jump over a wall and skip a tiny portion of the track, saving 1 or 2 seconds per lap.

5-1. Water Lily Party (this is where the fun begins): Skip #1: You can immediately drive off of the track, making sure your right wheel passes over the bounce pad in front of the starting line, and you will be picked up and placed more than halfway through the track for some reason, improving the lap time from ~28 seconds to ~13 seconds Skip #2: You can use the bounce pad in front of the finish line to immediately hop over an invisible wall and on to the very end of the track, making for a ~7 second lap Skip #3: This one is extremely precise, it's possible to do skip #2 and miss the track, but still be picked up and put down at the end of the track. This makes for a ~10 second lap. Skip #2 is faster and easier, so you should never intentionally attempt this skip These 3 skips are all in this video Skip #4: If you're at the very end of the lap, you can drive off the edge of the track and towards the finish line, and it will count as a completed lap. This saves 2 or 3 seconds on an individual lap, but it loses time overall because you'll be picked up and placed further back on the track than you usually would. It would save time if you did it on lap 5, but doing it on lap 5 triggers an infinite lap glitch, meaning the race will never end. Combining this with skip #2 can make for a ~4 second lap Skip #5: I'm honestly not entirely sure what the cause of this one is, and I've only encountered it once, but I believe what happened is I fell off the track and was placed back on top of the finish line, and at the same time an AI drove under me and pushed me backwards in midair so that I was behind the finish line, allowing me to then drive forward and immediately finish the lap. This could potentially make for the fastest possible lap, but taking advantage of the AI is very difficult to do

If you want to submit Poppy Kart 2 to speedrun.com then feel free. However, I've played it and am not remotely interested in it, and these leaderboards are only for Poppy Kart 1, so I won't be submitting it or adding PK2 levels to these leaderboards.

I had literally no way of knowing that. I’ll fix it, but again, in the future submit the run yourself so you can enter the information correctly.

tópico: Poppy Kart
Texas, USAIanwubby6 years ago

@FlipRun if you want to submit that run you have to go to the page for that category and click on “submit run” and then fill out the information and then submit it. Then I can officially add the run to the leaderboards.

As it stands, I'm not really in need of another mod currently, and I'm not really a proponent of the "let anyone become a mod if they ask" line of thinking that I sometimes see in other cases. So my answer for now is "no", but that could change if the circumstances change.

All of the karts have the same speed, I've definitely tested that. The only difference besides that is the frog guy (Crapo) and the elephant guy (Norton) can cause the really lightweight characters to spin out. However, Poppy and Rooki are not lightweight (so they can't be made to spin out), and they're unlockable within world 1, so I don't think paid vs. unpaid would make any sort of significant difference.

I'm confused as to what you're trying to say. The "All Races" category is the sum of the individual race times, the "All Levels" category is the sum of all the race times and the non-race times as well.

tópico: Poppy Kart
Texas, USAIanwubby6 years ago

The individual track times were 1:22.81, 1:22.79, 1:20.82, 1:02.70, and 2:17.60, which, when added together, do, in fact, equal 7:26.72.

The disparity between the in-game time and real time comes from the fact that the in-game time only includes time actually in races, and doesn't count time between races in the menu.

It uses in-game time, so the times taken for each track added together, and not real time.

The Endless Ocean 1 leaderboards have separate console/emulator categories right now, but I think since this game is kind of dead right now nobody has bothered to separate the categories (yet?).

I feel like "Touch Generations" would be far too broad of a series to add to src. Honestly, I feel like calling it a "series" is quite a stretch. Endless Ocean and Blue World should both belong in the "Endless Ocean" series, not in "Touch Generations". In fact, there are even some precursors to Endless Ocean (Everblue and Everblue 2) that are NOT in Touch Generations, but that I would happily include in the "Endless Ocean" series.

My suggestion is just to not submit Touch Generations. A series, in my opinion, should be much more specialized than that would be.

(also if you want to discuss it more you can hop in the discord server https://discord.gg/9EXwydz )

Alrighty then, RTA will remain the default for the time being.

Recently I've been considering transitioning the full-game leaderboards from Real Time (RTA) to In-Game Time (IGT).

On the one hand, the in-game timer is perfectly accurate, and prioritizing IGT would remove any potential problems with loading times. So, using the IGT would seem to work perfectly fine. This would also remove the need to re-time runs afterwards.

On the other hand, the IGT becomes inaccurate if you ever die in a run, because the game doesn't give you centisecond accuracy for your time of death. However, this isn't too bad of a problem.

Along with this, switching to IGT causes problems because of Version 0.0.1.1. Version 0.0.1.1 has very different in-game times from Version 0.2+. The RTA is more or less identical between the two, but switching to IGT would necessitate separating 0.0.1.1 from 0.2+ on the leaderboards.

So, what do you think of potentially switching to IGT?

The page is a bit of a mess, but as you said, that's kind of to be expected from a game like this. Granted, I do feel like the IL categories might could use some changing. If anything is to be changed about the leaderboards, my primary suggestion would be to remove the "crash landing" category from the ILs (and yes I know I was the one who added it initially). But, I feel like the main "front page" categories are all fine as they are.

I'm glad you approve of the new rules. I tried not to change any of the rules too much, just tried to make them more rigorous/descriptive. Hopefully I achieved that at least somewhat ;)
