The any% tas uses the same mathod to clip in 4-2. But it still saves the FR. How does the tas do it differently that is much faster?
Refrase: How many frames do you have to save in 4-2? Is the fast-accel the reason the tas saves the FR?
Ive gotten fireworks with bbg, tbh it took a couple tries to get the right shot. I dont know when you would arrive the flag without slowing down as much, but you can still get fireworks.
RTA timing starts the first frame the time on the top right says "400" in 1-1. and ends the frame all sprites disappear after touching the axe in 8-4.
If mario enters a block, his x speed decelerates to 24, the maximum walking speed. Regardless of if you hold B or not.
It would take him more time to accelerate past 24 than if you just go straight to the pipe.
Ive been really invested into minus world ending recently. Ive gotten the warp from 1-2 pretty easy. My one problem is on -1, trying to get the FPG. Is there a ROM hack that I can use that starts in the minus world? I saw @Kosmic use one during a practice stream, and i would find it useful.
Because of framerules, you cant shorten the loading time between levels.
If you dont know what a framerule is : "imagine there is a bus stop at the end of every level, that comes every 21 frames. If you come 0 or more frames early, you catch the bus and move on to the next level. But if you miss the deadline by even 1 frame, you have to wait another 20 frames to catch the next." - Darbian
The fastest you can finish 1-1. (From power on to the frame you touch the flagpole) is 1289 frames. In order to tie with the TAS, you have to be faster than or equal to 1310 frames in 1-1
I left out the detail that "TAS 4-2" is by far the hardest trick in the game. when I said "consistent" it was more along the lines of: clip, warp, move onto the next world with frames of leeway. possible, but so difficult that it is not viable RTA (fast accel isn't even viable yet)
@Mars02 TBH 4:54 is a while down the line. unless someone finds a different way to clip into something, we might not see it for a while
4-2 framerule using the new Happy Lee method seems totally possible/consistent. I got really close in practice. (wouldn't call it practice if I have a 5:05 though)
Happy Lee 4-2 framerule :
You technically need to use this in 8-1 to save the framerule. Sockfolder method saves 17 frames over just jumping to the top of the flag. But "mavpole" saves an additional 4 making it 21, just enough to save another FR (if you play 8-1 perfectly)
