i love how pretty much the only categories from this that are in aside from the obvious are the two that ppl doubted anyone would run. # bring back all mega tumor rta 2k20
The leaderboard used to be split, but because Wii U was the default platform, Switch (/3DS) records didnt show up in the "all level leaderboards" page, which seemed weird, so they were merged. I think if they are split back, which I think makes sense, we need to decide on a new default platform / find a way to resolve that menu issue. As the Wii U seemingly only has disadvantages against other platforms, it shouldn't be the default platform, even though it was the original.
DeDeDeDeDeDeDeDeDeDeDeDe RTA get a 4 DeDeDe stack in the order of red-yellow-green-blue
might not fit in the suggestion thread as it is more of a necessity
now that the game is out I feel like no need for a demo category- the game's a must buy anyway ?
a couple new replays from Hall Dedede and and the included essay and times of some other abilities coming later today. haven't come close to beating the game but I'll do what I can to help the runs for now ?
I know I'd run ILs the moment I beat the game myself before full runs, so make that a 1
Ok so like probably many that will have this as their first Kirby speedgame, I didn't know the series just used a single discord for most games. I recommend checking the link in the Kirby series forums to join that, but there's no star allies channel yet, so just know that. If the game ends up needing multiple channels to properly develop, I guess separate discord will be made. Just noting, but do show interest still for what the thread's about
EDIT: A channel's there now ?
I'd love to have a place to chat with others who are interested in the game (ex. Demo runs) even before launch, but I don't know how many others would really join. This will be a thing eventually, but if there's enough interest, I can open a discord for now to start things. (or the mods will idk)
Cutter is faster on ground for low dash attack delay, and more consistent for sure. Fire is mostly good for final climb to avoid a part where you need to use floating which is really slow, and quickkills Whispy.
Also, I found this video, it seems to be the WR, The Japanese version definitely allowed for faster turorial popup canceling, since it saves roughly 4-8 seconds over the run it seems. (Nintendo can we stop this trend in 2018)
Yeah, there's no specific quickkill /boss thread so I'll throw it here: pretty sure fire's standing attack you can hold forever, aimed up into Whispy's mouth is extremely fast, and the game considers it a quickkill since it has its own "burning down" animation for that.
Did more timings, long document paste: Speeds from start of Dedede Hall to the black door at the end (in seconds.milliseconds): Running (no ability) - 8.857 Running (no ability), jumping - 8.362 Sliding (no ability) - 9.305 Cutter Dash - 6.643 Water sprinting - 6.955 Fire/Burning Dash, on surface level - 6.970 Fire/Burning Dash, Aiming dash upwards - 5.246
So yeah, running and as many useful jumps (not just hopping, since that won't actually work in stages) is the way to go without any ability.
I might have not done my best in execution on ground burning, but I didn't make any misfires of the wrong attack- meaning, it seems ascending dashes with fire seem fastest, but very hard to pull off from my experience, but cutter seems to be very consistent- it seems the storage for it's Sprint is starting during the attack, so you can basically start sprinting (therefore attacking again) almost immediately after the last dash.
On the other hand, burning is better for scaling up areas, but has to read 2 new direction inputs to properly start a sprinting state. Burning is also more affected by hitstun, when cutter dashes don't seem to have any at all- so it seems levels will mostly have to juggle, depending on their verticality™ between cutter and burning.
I'd also note that the Stone + Water friend combo is pretty much the fastest thing in the game, but in 1 player, relies on playing with Stone (not fast by itself, go figure) and the CPU to help you quickly. But in 2 player runs, this will probably have a fairly big role in the run.
Speaking of hitstun, I compared the friend wheel 2nd segment when played normally to a run where I avoided enemies, and by that hitstun: Without minimal hitstun: 26.102 Actively avoiding hitstun: 25.906 It's 0.2 seconds that aren't hard to save, so saved they will be.

Seems like there's enough interest in those from pretty much everyone here.... Besides the mods, both of which have yet to run the demo . Not sure if this is just dissing demo speedruns but all we really want is at least temporary boards for now.
Cutter seems more reliable to me but if the verticality of fire is better, fire it is. It seems to be very useful in Grasslands rn.
This run (Current Grasslands Stage WR, it seems) uses burning to cover vertical distance, and it seems actually so much faster than anything, even if slower on ground level. Also helps the Whispy quickkill in this stage
Cutter also had a faster dash cooldown than Sword and Fire right? Sword has a pretty long one, and I think fire is a shorter dash overall.
I mean, no real reason not to put it as an IL or something for now- And if we found out that the same exact levels are in the full game, we can just move the runs or whatever. Won't hurt to try
Just gonna throw my 2 cents here while i already requested the game but uh
Well if someone really wanted to cheat to a 'perfect', let's say world peace run, They have to make that secretly segmented run very quickly, as there's a visible date on every single moon. Also I guess submitting the run within a day of the date marked on all moons got in the run is fair, so no precise editing can be done, just raw footage
Currently I like the way both the TEiN reddit servers and speedrunners are in one place. the game is super accessible for anyone to join and see out discussions and it makes that aspect of the game a normal part of the community unlike many games where casuals need to go out of their way to just check on speedrunning. I think that for now it's good to have the TEiN server be our main place to talk, But maybe in the future that'll be needed.
So, we all know this game has a lot of space for a lot of categories to run. Some ideas are better, some worse, some impossible. Here's some I had.
= = NG+ (New Game+) = =
- You Canuse any save file you previously has with any amount of tumors.
- Timer starts when selecting + confirming The End on world map.
- Timer ends on credits, like usual.
- You have to reach all the ends of all worlds like usual- You can't just travel to last world. The idea is making this a bit like an "all levels" category that ignores the tumor collection like in any%. That means: Using warps isn't allowed except for coming back to The Split. you are only allowed to use the actual, visible warp gates in the end of Golgotha, SS. Exodus and Machine. no map warping. of course, warping to the end after whatever world you do last of the 3 split paths is fine.
- Warp to the future using the actual friend in your house.
= = All Cartridges - Subcategories = = Now this is a bit obvious that this will exist, but it might be unclear to some how will this be seperated, so, There will be:
All Cartidges Done - RTA from entering your TV until you beat the last cart. Only need the "Bare minimum" listing on each cart. All Cartidges + Collectibles - RTA from entering your TV until you beat get the last "100% of Nothing!" Achievement on the all cartidges with said achievements, and beat every cart.
All Cartidges Complete - RTA from entering your TV until you get the last achievement on all carts. All numbers beside all carts.
== All Tumors - Subcategories = =
- All small tumors Get all tumors from the non-secret areas in the game and beat the game. Timer starts on new save file start and ends on credits.
- All 'maingame' tumors Get all tumors from both non-secret areas and ??? areas in the game and beat the game. Cartridge rewards not required. Timer starts on new save file start and ends on credits.
- All possible tumors Get all tumors in the game, Including both the ones found throughout the world, secret areas and all cartidge rewards that bring tumors- And beat the game. Timer starts on new save file start and ends on credits.
== 100% == I think true 100% needs to be all possible tumours and all cartridge achievements- Sounds like the most sensible way unless there's some other thing I don't know of yet.
All I could think of ATM. the idea of "Interact with all NPCs" did pop up once in the discord and seemed interesting since they all have their own little ways to reach and have no additional rewards (i think?), so that might be fun.
