Now that we've got some new blood in the modship of the game i'd like to propose the following:
The Any% Categories moved to be the main categories that would first show on the leaderboard and the 50k score categories (Both NES and Arcade) moved to the end of the list or to a misc category.
My main reasoning for this is that the 50k Score category, while it does have more runners, does not complete the game nor come anywhere close to completing the game.
While it's not uncommon for arcade games to have a "high score" category - these are usually reserved for endless games that do not have a reasonable win state. Tower of Druaga is absolutely not one of these games.
For a game that can be beaten I've found it very strange that this category exists at all, let alone be the main category of the game.
I'm sure people put genuine work into it, so I don't think we should be getting rid of this entirely. Just moved to later in the list or a misc category.
I'll make no changes without the agreement of the other members of the mod team, of course. I'd love to hear everyone's opinion.
I agree with you that "as for the main category, I would give priority to the category of clearing games."
Personally, I would also like to change it for the following reasons
- I am concerned because the name order is not organized
- I cannot see the PCE/TG-16 entry when I quickly look at it The second reason led me to mistakenly believe that the PCE version of the category did not exist, and there was a time when I gave up on the idea.
In addition to the above reasons, I would suggest the following sorting order for the tabs.
- any%
- any% (NES)
- any% (PCE/TG-16)
- any% Another Tower (PS1)
- any% Darkness Tower (PS1)
- all main treasures (PCE/TG-16)
- 50k (HS)
- 50k (NES)
I would really like to have all category tabs on the same screen as much as possible. We would like to shorten the names of the tabs, or group together those that can be subcategorized. However, that is separate from this issue, and we may want to consider whether or not we should support this, and if so, how.
If you are able to check this thread. I would like to hear from the runners as well.
I agree with both opinions. also I would suggest split again PSX version from arcade version leaderboard.
PSX porting looks like very similar as Arcade, but some mechanism behavior is different. an objects and enemies won't spawn near gil, but PSX version can spawn closer location than arcade version. also many minor logic are different:
- Timer dectriment timing
- Mage Positioning logic
- Knight spawn wait frames
- Treasure judge position in Floor 30
- decide a Mattock durability logic maybe more something...
Based on my opinions above, I would suggest two ways to order of the category tabs.
- Tabbed by category and console hardware:
- Any% (Arcade)
- Any% (PSX) +- Any% +- Any% Another Tower +- Any% Darkness Tower
- Any% (NES) +- Any% +- Any% Another Tower
- Any% (PCE / TG-16) +- Easy +- Normal +- Hard +- Pro Game
- All Treasures (PCE / TG-16) +- Easy +- Normal +- Hard +- Pro Game
- 50k +- 50k (PSX) +- 50k (NES)
- Tabbed by console hardware:
- Arcade +- Any% +- 50k
- PSX +- Any% +- Any% Another Tower +- Any% Darkness Tower +- 50k
- NES +- Any% +- Any% Another Tower +- 50k
- PCE / TG-16 +- Any% Easy +- Any% Normal +- Any% Hard +- Any% Pro Game +- All Treasures Easy +- All Treasures Normal +- All Treasures Hard +- All Treasures Pro Game
I would also suggest splitting the PSX version of the leaderboard from the arcade version of the leaderboard.
This would mean, in light of the supported platforms. Does this mean that the leaderboards would be split as follows?
- Any% (Arcade): WiiVC, DS, Switch, Arcade
- Any% (PSX): PS1, PSP, PS4 Or PSX = PS1 only? I would like some clarification in this area.
Also, if I am correct in my understanding above, then 50k would be the following classification, correct? (I think an item is missing)
- 50k +- 50k (Arcade) +- 50k (PSX) +- 50k (NES)
I am not sure if it is really appropriate to separate categories based on detailed internal specifications. I'm a little apprehensive. (I have no objection if the difference is as big as Another Tower and Darkness Tower.)
For example, I have the following concerns
- Other platforms were found to have the same specifications
- It is unclear which category the newly released platform will be classified into (Possibility of absence of people who can distinguish between the two in the future).
- Later found to be inadequate for validation
However, you can either have these things handled on a case-by-case basis. If there is no one left who can handle it, we can just give up and put it back the way it was. I thought it would be better to leave it to those present at the time.
Based on the above. I agree with the following division.
- Tabbed by category and console hardware:
Hello!
Apologies for the late reply!
I am in agreement with tabs by category & console hardware.
The versions are pretty diverse and this allows us to represent each platform!
One very quick note - All Main Treasures does not need a pro game category as there are no "bonus" treasures in that mode.
OK. I would like to organize them in order when I get around to it. (Perhaps only the super moderator can organize the categories?)
One very quick note - All Main Treasures does not need a pro game category as there are no "bonus" treasures in that mode.
I thought that "All Main Treasures" was a category that meant "All Main Treasures", so I thought the presence or absence of bonus treasure was not important. For this reason, we felt it would not be a problem to have a subcategory for professional gamers. What do you think? (Whether or not anyone submits is another question)
In the case of more subcategories, the category tabs didn't even multiply. I didn't pay much attention to them.
Apologies for the late reply! I know it's hard when "moderating" becomes like a job. So, you can go at your own pace
(However, if you follow Speedrun.com's guidelines, it seems within 21 days is preferable.)
Categories have been organized. View Rules will take a little more time. When you have finished writing up to the View Rules, include them in the News.
Or PSX = PS1 only? I would like some clarification in this area. yes, PSX = PS1. I thought PS1 is called as PSX mainly in english community, so I used that codename.
Also, if I am correct in my understanding above, then 50k would be the following classification, correct? (I think an item is missing) sorry, I missed about 50k Arcade...
For example, I have the following concerns
- Other platforms were found to have the same specifications currently I have know about the X68K version has very different behavior as arcade. but it's fan made porting so won't add into the categories unless someone want to add the record.
- It is unclear which category the newly released platform will be classified into nowadays using emulation for porting the retro games basically so I think add to the arcade category first is fine.
(Possibility of absence of people who can distinguish between the two in the future). yes. to be honest, this one is problem to split the category...
also sorry for doing reply after change the category organize
Hey there,
After thinking about things a bit more - I can understand why we'd want Pro Game in "All Main Treasures" as well. My initial thought was "It's a different method to unlock treasure and there's only 1 per floor" but that shouldn't change anything. Essentially a Pro Mode run of "All Main Treasures" would collect every treasure in the game.
Regarding versions of the game that are less known such as the X68K - I agree that we do not make a category for it initially - but if someone comes along with a run and would like to submit it we can make that category at the time.
Thanks for everything y'all have done for this and letting me be a part of it. I adore Tower of Druaga and i'm so glad to see the full game categories getting a lot of love and attention here for once.
Thanks for the reply.
I have finished organizing the View Rules in regards to categories. We will notify you later in the News about the category reorganization. Please check to see if there are any major mistakes.
We have noticed that after updating the rules, they are not reflected for a while. Maybe the previous rules are still displayed. I could only see the rules that had not been updated when I signed out. After one night I was able to see the updates.
Hey, I apologize if I was away for a long time considering I used to be a mod. I'll need to log in more often and such. It's nice to know that this now has 3 mods. Btw does anyone want to run The Return of Ishtar which is accessible on Namco Museum Vol. 4?
I am interested in The Return of Ishtar, but have not been able to purchase it. And it is probably difficult, so even if I do purchase it, I will have some time available before I can run it.

I have posted News. After a while, if there are no problems, I would like to lock this thread. May I? (I am not sure if it is normal to lock a thread in which you are not the Author.)
I also have a question from Mr. ChuMogpo. I think it will stay this way for a while longer.
Thanks.
I am going to close this thread as a reasonable period of time has passed.
Also, this is a bit off the agenda of this thread. An emulator check was set up on a record I have that uses a compatible machine (RetroFreak).
Thanks.
Fixed minor issue in some older records. also made changes to some records that were more proper settings with the addition of new platforms.
