The rules have been updated

This is an announcement that the rules have been updated today. Be sure to give them a read next time you decide to start speedrunning as some things have changed. The majority of the rules are all the same but I rewrote some of them to make it more clear what we are expecting of our runners when it comes to submitting runs. A few things to note that are now different:

  • No mods at all are allowed, the only exception is the Speedometer Mod which can only be used exclusively for the Race Track% category.
  • Now the Part Two Category has an official ruleset.
  • There is now mention of not changing the default campaign settings, this should be self-explanatory but you shouldn't be changing these when you intend to submit speedruns, this has been an issue for multiple runners in the past, any runs that change these setting will result in rejection.
  • We have asked for players to not play on outdated versions of the game, this rule hasn't been followed, it wasn't an official rule before today, now we are asking for players to be playing on versions 1.4.0 - 1.6.2 when submitting to any categories excluding the Pre-Version categories, the reason for this is that Steam only allows players to have access to the current build so 1.6.2 or the beta builds 1.4.0 or 1.5.0 so that's why this rule change is happening, a small handful of players have gotten access to older versions of the game, but without access to them myself or for other runners I have made it so they aren't allowed unfortunately, this change only affects very few runners and I do apologize for the inconvenience but if I and others don't have access to these older versions of the game then it doesn't seem right keeping this going, if there is a way to make these versions available to all players then maybe we could make new categories for those that want to play on these older versions

Thanks for your cooperation and understanding regarding these changes, I am striving to have all players to be on the same playing field, and I'd like to see some actual uniformity on the leaderboards. We shouldn't be allowed to submit runs on just any version just because of how players feel about a particular version of the game, I understand that the game has had some polarizing changes in the past 4 years but it shouldn't be a big deal to play on a recent build of the game. If anybody know how to have access to these older versions of the game I would like to see that, I may even be able to make them public for download here on src which would be cool. Again these changes were to benefit all parties involved, the moderators and the speedrunners. Happy speedrunning!
