Twitch is implementing changes to its storage that could impact speed-runners run submissions to Speedrun.com. Supposedly it impacts only .5% of their users, but since most of their users are watchers, and most of the people here are posters, I feel it could disproportionately affect our communities.
If you use the Highlights feature for any of your run submissions, and have over 100 hours of content in said Highlights, you could be in danger of losing some of that content.
I do not wish to make any sweeping rule changes, such as disallowing twitch submissions, HOWEVER I do implore you to double check this. Download any runs that could be impacted, re-upload them to YouTube, or your preferred video archival site and re-submit if you are impacted, so the moderation team can ensure the history of the runs can be preserved.
I realize that not everyone on Speedrun.com is active, so I have posted this in my speedrunning discords as well. If you have buddies with clogged twitch highlight reels that submit speedruns, help your community out by letting them know. I am trying to go through the active boards, but I am one person and I moderate multiple games with hundreds of runs.
I have already DM'ed a few people I suspect it could impact, HOWEVER I have ran into private twitch accounts, with no recent activity, and other outlier type situations.
Hope everyone is doing well, and its unlikely there will be a large amount of runs impacted, but I want you to keep the credit you have attained. If you have any questions or concerns do let me know.
For the sake of transparency, all submitted runs on the Tail Concerto leaderboard (all categories, all versions, and obsolete runs included) were checked. A total of 7 submissions were found to use twitch highlights as their only source. 1 additionnal submission uses twitch highlight as the video source, but already as a youtube video in the comments.
The concerned users were all DMd about this. They all replied. Hence, Tail Concerto's leaderboards should not be affected.
Rules were also edited to encourage not using twitch highlights for future submissions.
