Hi, I'm making this post because I realized that Flying2926 and I were timing our runs completely differently. I think we should clarify what the timing rules are so I'm proposing this method: As you can see, starting the timer on the black screen after the loading is pretty consistent and although it requires retiming afterwards - I believe wrs all require retiming anyway, it's precise enough by hand for running. Ending when the crosshair disappears is what I believe what Flying2926 used and I think it's the best way. Tell me what you think :)
Yea, I actually noticed the difference here too when I watched yours back recently and realized your time would still be a second or two faster than mine. My logic was that the timer starts once you gain control of the character so it would make sense that it ends once you lose control after clicking on the cryo pod. And I feel like that's a standard for most speedruns.
Like you said, the runs should be retimed but since we're running a small game it just doesn't really happen. I agree there should be a specific ending time rule added (once you lose control or the crosshair disappears). I'd be fine with retracting my time and trying for a better one since yours was definitely a bit quicker if we ended at the same time.
My issue with starting the timer when you "take control" of the character is that it's not very precise, if you start inputting directions as soon as the loading is over, you will have altready moved in the black screen.
