Quake 3 : Arena Dreamcast

Hello,

I'm interested into running this version : a lot of maps are different from PC version so I hope there would be a specific category for this run ?

There is really no player who never have ran this version before ? I can't find any record anywhere on internet;

If you allow me this run, I have 2 other questions :

-First : I would like to do it with the controller but I also have the keyboard / mouse (and I assume it's way much easier with the second). Would you define 2 categories ? I guess no, was there's not enough challenger on this version and the faster way is the faster method and that's all ^^ (even if not everyone can put a hand on dreamcast Keyboard N' mouse).

-Second question : How to record my game on TV ? I do have a mobile home security camera that can record in HD : but shall I focus only on TV or I have to show I'm on Dreamcast / controller ? Dumb question as I only ran on computer ^^ (and I won't show my face too).

Thank you in advance for your answer, meanwhile I'm soon starting to train !

Your best bet for recording off of a TV would be with a capture card, these are used so that people can record or stream gameplay footage from a television with a console. Currently, I use the Elgato HD60s Capture Card for all of my runs that aren't done on PC games, and I would highly recommend it as well. You can find cheaper alternatives for AV cables if needed, and that's probably what you'll want to use if you plan on running off of dreamcast

Hi; sorry for late response.

For Dreamcast runs there is a related option for "platform" (Dreamcast/ PS2/ Xbox/ PC/ iOS), so feel free to submit the run under it. As for specific game category: I believe they are game oriented and platform you run the game does not really fall under it. For question on input: it's up to you i guess :) (i would probably choose the one that im most comfortable with and as a result will give me better overall time) - but yea, I doubt there is a need for a specific game category for different user inputs choices on specific platform.

Please note that the LB is sorted by IGT (or "Time without loads") that can be captured using autosplitter (if its compatible with Dreamcast game version :/ not entirely sure) script in resources (and runs submitted without IGT will be treated as IGT = RTA) (there is also a sticky post in forum by Kirua about it)

Coming to think of it (after I've checked whatever gameplay I could fine on youtube) - I think you're right and might want to seek to create your own game category for it inside of quake series; pehaps hit up some of the moderators of quake series (Cuberface / Elgo), or the Alexo (https://www.speedrun.com/user/Alexo) who moderating Quake / Quake II (N64) games and ask for advise on how to or opinion. Hope it helps.

Bumping on this as I meant to do it two years ago but forgot to until now (whoops!) I've reached out to Elgu about potentially splitting Q3-DC into its own game on SRC. After doing a run, I've realized that the game feels quite different than vanilla Quake 3 and generally has a different run because of the different maps. Hopefully this can finally be resolved after several years!
