Hello everyone! Recently a poll was sent out in the MKDD Discord about whether to switch to the in-game timer for Grand Prix speedruns. If you're confused as to why, you can watch these videos for more information:
The poll had IGT winning by a landslide, receiving over 90% of the vote. Therefore, we will be switching to using in-game timing for grand prix speedruns on March 14. Runs that have video will all be checked to make sure they have IGT attached. If you have any runs that do not have video, please ensure that they have IGT attached to them by the above date. Runs that do not have IGT attached will automatically be filtered to the bottom of the leaderboard.
In the meantime, another poll has gone up in the MKDD Discord on whether or not pausing should be banned for grand prix speedruns. If you are not in the Discord, please join with the Discord link at the top of the page.
Thank you!

Hello Double Dashers! Some of you may have noticed some changes on the leaderboards recently :) Here's a quick rundown:
Leaderboards have been divided into two different categories:
- Glitchless: MB, WS, MuC, BC, and any other future skips will be banned, as will Z-Tech. A-Tech, R-Tech, and L-tech are crucial driving techniques and will remain allowed for this category.
- Glitch: Pretty self-explanatory. All skips, techs, and other shenanigans allowed.
The video requirements have also been broadened to be based on IGT milestones rather than the top 10 times. (Old runs have been grandfathered in.) The new requirements are as follows:
- All Cup Tour: 30:00 IGT
- Mushroom Cup: 5:45
- Flower Cup: 6:45
- Star Cup: 7:15
- Special Cup: 10:00
That's all for now. Be on the lookout for more changes in the future

Around 3 weeks ago, a new technique got found where you can extend the Golden Mushroom usage to extreme amounts.
A short summary on what Z-tech is
The timer of the golden mushroom (300 frames) starts ticking down the moment you use it. However, when not able to use your item, the timer is paused. As you can't use an item when you're switching, the timer pauses when you switch. Conveniently, the mushroom effect will still continue through. So practically by chaining two switches, then using the shroom, you can keep using it for around ~52 seconds when done well.
This is applicable in any track, and extremely powerful on some tracks such as Dry Dry Desert or Mario Circuit.
That'll be all :)
