Hey there. I got it in my head recently to go for the Glitchless NG+ record for Dead Space 3. I watched Mattmatt10111's WR run, and was confused when I saw him checkpoint-restarting to bypass a few lengthy conversations in order to open doors that are locked until those conversations end. Does that not count at a skip? I'm very new to speedrunning, so I'm still a bit unclear as to what does and does not qualify as such.
Please know, It is not my intention to accuse, or attempt to invalidate his run. I'm asking from a purely inquisitive standpoint. If this is a legitimate tactic, I'll be more than happy to incorporate it into my own runs.
I watched the WR run on mute, so If this was explained in the video, then I apologize for this post.
All the out of bounds skips that are used in the any% run aswell as a few sections where you crouch the avoid to slow walk animation are what is not allowed in glitchless, checkpoint restarts and the little skip in labs by loading a later section in the chapter is allowed in glitchless, i will eventually add a list of things that are allowed and not allowed in the rules, but for now whatever i do in my run is fine.
Maybe a better name for this category would be Any% No OoB, OoB = Out of Bounds.
Most of the rules are different for each game on what is allowed and what isnt, its not a general thing across all games which you will come to learn, hope this helped!
That run was also my first glitchless run so i was still trying to decide what isnt and is allowed, so i most likely mentioned it a few times in my run also.
Uhh, i would say that checkpoint restating or loading the optional mission in Rosetta labs would be fine. I mean, checkpoint restarting and stuff are actions that are developer intended.
Can confirm that yes, all the checkpoint restarts seen in mattmatt10111's runs can be used on console.
