From trying to moderate an IL run (specifically challenge 1 PC normal) I've realized the current timing system (RTA) can pretty heavily punish people using lower end devices
I have a couple ideas on how timing should work but it would be nice for some feedback
(these pros and cons are from my perspective, you might see a pro that you consider a con and vice versa)
Current Timing (RTA): Pros Allows use of clearing bullets to speed up the run Prevents Time Bombing spamming Intensive to Bomb only when necessary (small time loss, dependent on shot type) Intensive to not get hit (about a 1.5 second time loss)
Cons People with worse PC's/Phones end up losing time due to framerate
This timing gives strategy to bombing and taking hits only when necessary but you can lose a lot of time just for having a worse PC or Phone The run that got me thinking about changing the timing probably lost 30 seconds just to low framerate
IGT: Pros Simpler to time People with worse devices aren't punished Intensive to not get hit (about a 0.5 second time loss)
Cons Allows Time Bomb spamming Bullets can't be cleared to speed up runs No downsides to bombing
This timing fixes the issue of lower end devices losing time but overall gives less strategy to the run with clearing bullets or bombing when necessary It also means that the Time Shot Type would allow you to slow down the timer which would make every run use it for both a better time and to make bullets easier to dodge which I feel could make runs a little boring
IGT (Time Type Ban): Pros Simpler to time People with worse devices aren't punished Prevents Time Bombing spamming Intensive to not get hit (about a 0.5 second time loss)
Cons Bullets can't be cleared to speed up runs No downsides to bombing Restricts a shot type
Same as before but using Time type and spamming bombs wouldn't be allowed
I could always make a time shot type category if IGT is used
I'm just gonna use IGT with a time type ban for now but if anyone wants to give feedback on this wall of text then feel free
