All Events (No Game-Over)

Thats Simple, you only need to finish the Events, you can "die", but not do a Game-Over.

yeah that would be an fun category, to be honest the any% is a bit borring because of that and it's mostly smash skills. I was thinking about a "Any% High Score" where we need to get a new record for each level, that can be fun and there will be some interesting stuff to search

Yeah, and maybe have ILs too IDK.

I was looking at the NES leaderboard, there is a "Some Events" category for Skateboard, Skating and Bmx. Maybe we can ask an admin to add those categories?

  • "All Events" (with "any%", "no game over", "all high score" sub categories)
  • "Some Events"
  • "One Event" (with a sub category for each event)

I'm not sure how flexible is speedrun.com for changing category, but the current "All Events" can become "All Events - Any%" (category & sub category). What is everyone thinking about this proposition?

I think that's a great idea. Let me know what categories and rules you were thinking for each and I can create them

Unless Star_fox can just give you mod status

it's fine I will ask Star Fox later. Maybe for now we can discuss and agree on the rules? I've tried adding category and sub category using variables for another game, It's really flexible and we can revert the changes easily. But if we want to define the rule for each sub-category, We can only define the game rules and the category rules. Because of that, I think it's would be better to create a new category instead of making a sub-category, what do you think? For the Individual Level, the leaderboard has already a section for that and we can add a rules for each level

We can at least rename "All Levels" to "All Levels - Any%"

For "All Levels - All High Score" Category I propose this: Get all the high score for all the levels, the "new record" screen must appear after the end of each level. here are the minimum score for each level

  • Skateboard: score > 10000
  • Foot Bag: score > 35000
  • Surfing: score > 5.5
  • Skatting: score > 1010
  • BMX: score 15000
  • Flying Disk: score > 777

@AntBlueR how would you define "No Game-Over"? I watched a long play video, it would always show "Game Over" at the end of each level ahah. I guess it would be like complete until time's up or until reaching the end level for skating & BMX? for flying disk I don't know how to define "No Game-Over"

My idea of "All Events, No Game Over" would be that you have to end all Events, like, reach the end of Skating for example, survive on Half Pipe and Surfing and finish BMX, and the Flying Disc I think there is no need to win. Sorry for delay, I wake up rn.

About creating subcategories, I would think better for One Event and Some Events, but its my opnion, also, i have had difficulties in organizing a Learboard before.

Toronto, ON, Canada

For the Individual Category we have 2 options:

  • Create a separate "Level Leaderboard" (preview: https://i.ibb.co/SNg26pk/Screen-Shot-2020-12-08-at-11-24-30-AM.png)
  • Create a new "Individual Level" categories with a sub-category (variable) for each level (preview: https://i.ibb.co/RchGJjy/Screen-Shot-2020-12-08-at-11-28-13-AM.png)

I think create a new Category + sub categories looks better

For the individual Level, I don't think we need to set individual rules for each level, so maybe simply create a new category with sub category. For the general individual Level rule, I'm proposing this:

  • Timer starts when you press the button 1 or 2 on the "Next event" screen
  • Timer stops when you see the "Event Scores" screen

For the "Some Events", I think the idea is to only keep the fun level: Skateboard, Skating, BMX & Flying Disk Since Foot Bag is just waiting and surfing is just smashing, it makes sense to exclude those 2 I don't think we need to have sub categories for that and the rules would be pretty much the same as All Level

I was able to get the moderator permission, I added 3 new categories (and update the theme). Let me know if I should change something

Nice! I loved, but a idea too, add outher Subcategories for One Events, Exemple, We have Half Pipe, Foot Bag, Skating, Surfing, Flying Disk and BMX, what do you think to add Any%, No Game Over and High Score for this Subcategories?

Toronto, ON, Canada

Yeah I was thinking about that too, I thought it would be too much but maybe it should be ok, I will add them

Okay I've created the 2 other categories for "One Event". I'm still thinking it's a bit too much, but we can remove them any time if we want. I think some category & sub category can be a bit boring, for instance "Foot Bag Any%" and "Foot Bag No Game Over" are exactly the same thing.

For Game Over it would make sense or it would be more fun to be a "Some Event - No Game Over" category. the only 3 events where the player needs to survive are Half Pipe, Skating & BMX. Foot Bag and Surfing we can just not touch the controller and wait for the timer

If I have to change categories I would have this:

  • "All - Any%" = smashing as hell
  • "All - High Score" = best strat to get high score quickly
  • "Some - No Game Over" = surviving or reaching the end line faster

Any opinions?

I've added a guide for all the Rules, that would be easier to update all the rules across both leaderboards: https://www.speedrun.com/californiasms/guide/mixj2
