I have been a speedrunner of this game for 2-3 months now and never got a single run verified and ever since we got the new hud on speedrun.com we can see that no runs have been verified since at least 1 month. I strongly feel that this game deserves a new moderator/verifier who has time to dedicate to actually verify runs. Just an opinion. I understand that IRL is a thing but yeah.... its quite unmotivating to do runs without even knowing if it will ever be verified.
Thank you.
I understand and agree. I understand that moderators have lives but personally I believe that there should be a surplus of moderators for even a semi-popular game. This also helps with distributing verification equally and ensuring that not one or two moderators are stuck with verifying 30+ runs.
As a newcomer to this game and someone who plans on grinding for at least a sub 13, this is discouraging.
I know enough about the game to maybe help out.
@SuperSpeedRunner would be a fantastic mod for this game!
I would also love to help. Im currently sitting on a 13:07 time for this game but am a moderator for 2 other games and have been speedrunning for at least 4 years. But @SuperSpeedRunner would definitly be a great pick.
I would love to assist in some way, but I feel that my level of expertise wouldn't compliment the position, even though I've been speedrunning this game on-and-off for over a decade. I have had one time that was around 13:00 but that was years ago, and I'm sitting at a stagnant 14:04 since I've been using Livesplit. I speedrun many, many games but SML is what really started it all for me. Unfortunately, I would be likely to run into IRL issues as well, as I do with just about everything else lol.
And even more unfortunately, I believe most people are in a similar position. Its no easy task to dedicate yourself to this kind of thing, and genuinely having enough knowledge of the game to spot anyone that may be trying to cheat/splice/prerecord/etc. Its one thing to just watch a run and click "verify", but its a whole other thing to scrutinize gameplay recordings to identify people who do not have the best intentions. Many speedrunners know all too well that someone with just the right amount of knowledge can make a crazy run that ends up being cheated or DQ'd in some way, and the moderators are the first wall of defense against that.
Its a position that not many people qualify for or want, and its something that is held to a high standard by people who are a part of the community. My sincere congrats go to whoever does get the position though. There are some lesser-known games that I run that can take some time to get a verification - if at all, so I totally understand what you're saying.
I think I'm at the level to be moderator, and constantly check the leaderboard. Since the community is so niche I think it would be a must to mod me and maybe 1 other person.
I definitly feel like a community with 142 verified runners and a few pending ones could use more than 1 active moderator.
GG @SuperSpeedRunner! Glad we got things moving again :)
Awesome! I am a brand new speedrunner (long time watcher), and didn't realize this was happening with SML1. I have submitted a couple of runs, so am excited that they will be verified :)
sadly probably wont be able to watch runs today since ive had a busy day (and want to watch each run before verifying fully) but I will probably be able to watch tomorrow
Having several delayed speedruns pending is an asbolute disgrace to the website and speedrunning community. Shame on you guys!
Yes :)
You don't have to justify how you are modding or how active or inactive you are. Having a mod that cares is literally all that matters. You're doing good.
