So I know currently no skips have been found (Other than walking in a few cutscenes) But if we did find anything it would be huge. I notice in WildWill002's run some reason half the basement was completed already and if we were able to figure out why this happens we could save a good minute in any%. I notice him mashing about his controllor a lot could be something to do with this?
I spent about 12 hours one day trying to figure out the basement thing but I still have absolutely no clue.
I guess it's also possible there was a bugfix at some point. Thinking of getting back into running this so may do some more testing.
True true, although I feel like if that was true then walking in a few cutscenes would be patched out but then again who knows. Looking forward to seeing you more often.
I remember that run, really weird moment. I think it either has something to do with savefiles or it could possibly be related to another glitch in basement that I've noticed. Sometimes when wandering around in the basement I've noticed the king's door just isn't there, not sure what triggers it but it's not too uncommon.
Interesting, does it tend to be on a completed save file that happens? For reference it looks like he did it on save file 3. Will totally try to see if I can play around with that door idea later this week.
Usually on a completed file or otherwise after I've finished the basement. The door is supposed to remain sealed but sometimes isn't there. As for the save thing I was more suggesting it might have to do with having a completed file in a different slot but again that's a complete shot in the dark.
A big shot in the dark would something like if you quit out at a certain time in another save file then when it got to that section it loads in some how? It's a unity game so I wouldn't put it past being possible for something weird to happen like in Ori or Guacamole for example.
Could be, perhaps he did a practice run in basement before resetting to do his run, or just did two runs back to back and that somehow did something. One more guess for the guess pile, it could be a problem loading in all the objects for the room, perhaps it tries to load everything in that section and somehow forgets to make the door. Not sure how to go about testing all these but it'll be interesting to see if someone figures out a solution, or just if it happens again at all.
Another interesting thing we could play around with is the movement aspect? Seeing if that (staying moving during cutscenes and other) can actually be manipulated in any other way. I noticed at one time I was able to keep moving at the beginning when watching sixpence open the safe during the cutscene. Of course that doesnt save much at all but may be able to lead to something.
As far as I can tell the movement is linked to an oversight in mouse and keyboard controls, since using a controller you aren't able to move around nearly as often in cunscenes. Not sure what else you could use it for but hey, that's what experimentation is for.
Honestly so annoyed right now. I was doing 100% and finished talking to the "Devil" sub 1:29 and I cant enter the door in to the main room? Has anyone else experienced this? Or am I just being stupid about something? I reset and its still like this.
Update: Quitting out of the game and going in lets me go in to the door now.
From what I remember, before doing the run where the basement bugged I had just finished a 100% casual run on a seperate file, then did a practice run and then did that recorded run. Unsure if this'll help decipher what happened but I'm hoping to pick up the game again soon and try and replicate it
dont know if anyones still trying to figure out the basement glitch, but i got it on an early practice run. new save, so at least here it wasnt reset related. havent been able to recreate it yet but ill be looking for any similarities to Wildwill002's run i missed. glitch shows up at 0:46:19
just noting this down for the record, but i've noticed while messing around in a finished save that a lot of times going through a door triggers the sfx of the king's chamber door, seemingly at random (not consistent to specific doors). when i have time i'll look for the sound file in the code & see if i can find any specific triggers for it, may be related to the basement skip.
it may be tied to how long it takes to load in the next room, as i've noticed other issues when entering rooms that have never been loaded before/havent been entered in a long time. if it can be predicted/manipulated, maybe loading in new rooms that arent in the route/further away from "main areas" can affect it.. that's my theory for now.
one of the other issues i've noticed with loading in rooms may lead to a different glitch - when a room takes time to load, sometimes you can walk in the void outside the door for just an extra second. you then load into the next room that same distance from the door, skipping the entering animation. (never got recordings of this, but i remember it specifically when entering the mirror room in the theater). this may just be a visual glitch (so you're walking that distance in the next room in-bounds), but if it actually changes where you load in this may be a way to go out of bounds, for whatever that's worth. i'll do some more testing & try to catch it on recording.
if there's anyone still reading these who knows more about how this game works & how the levels are structured.... if there's a way to make loading slower on purpose it may help. couldn't find anything on that, everyone's just asking how to make it faster lol
there are now TWO different basement skips confirmed to be possible, though i have no idea how to trigger either of them. my last run somehow skipped all 3 basement puzzles and opened the chamber right away. notably the door opens with the jail/tree puzzle "unfinished". i opened the finished save after & checked the basement, the tree wasn't grown and the wire still not lit. none of the puzzle rooms were on the map, so the game wasn't made to believe i was already in there. no idea what to make of this. pretty sure this hasn't been seen in any speedruns on the board, i've only ever seen it in this one video of it happening mid guestrooms. didn't even know if it was real until now, and i still haven't seen any other example of a cutscene playing in the wrong place.
guess i should test going into this room in the casino while saving willow jic but i doubt that would do anything.. also doubt that goldskull appearances have anything to do with it but i guess the way they're generated might influence.. something.
and an update on the loading thing - after some testing, i'm convinced that it's just a camera delay & doesn't affect where you load in. also only happens within the theater + when leaving from the theater to the stairway, which is pretty useless for now.
