that's great! what did you do to make tom go through the plateform? I was considering to improve by making jerry climb and catch at this moment, same as level 2 (Garden). I might going to try that soon, thanks for sharing :)

I've tried, can't reproduce it... is it frame perfect? like it's a TAS. otherwise you put some action cheat to remove some collision detection

It's just a glitch. The easiest way to do it is:

  • Start 1 "tile" away from a wall (i.e. not a tiptoe or a long step, just a normal step)
  • Tap forward repeatedly. Quite quickly (but not too fast) It'll take a few tries to get the rhythym right. I've not had the chance to test it on hardware, but I've tested it on a few different emulators (Bizhawk, OpenEmu, Gearsystem) to make sure it's not an emulator-specific glitch.

A few notes:

  1. It's easy to find yourself softlocked - be careful where you walk
  2. If you keep the rhythm up you can get through more solid objects (this is harder)
  3. If you "almost" get through a longer object, try turning around - sometimes this is enough to pop you out
  4. As in my level 6 example above, you can jump out of a solid object, but the timing for this is a little fiddly
  5. It's definitely not frame perfect!
  6. I'm not 100% sure, but it seems other things going on (especially i-frames and screen scrolling) improve the chance of it working

In principle, you can walk through anything, but it gets exponentially harder for longer objects. So here are some "feasible" uses: Level 1: Walk through the third platform up of the inital platforms and jump to catch jerry Level 3: See above (or perhaps just walking through the bottom platform rather than climbing?) Level 5: Backup strat: Walk through any of the walls at the end of the first "cliff". Level 6: See above

Incidentally, how consistent do you find it to catch Jerry at the very start using the climb? I find the manipulation only works occasionally for me.

it works! yeah not easy to get the right rhythms but might be possible to use after some practice.

to catch jerry when it climbs is all about timing, I would say it's pretty consistent unless it throws a bomb. I haven't try to do that for other level but it's pretty much having enough distance for jerry to go up and tom to be able to run right before the climb.

When I got some time I will try to calculate what distance needed. I will post when I got something

Talking with other runners, it might be fun to have a "100%" category: catching jerry at the end of each stage, when the screen stop scrolling.

The run would focus more on making jerry runs as much as possible without catching him.
