Before adding any new category ideas from now on we first like to see that people will actually do runs. This is why we for most categories want 3 people to send runs in. So when proposing a new category, run it and make other people do it aswell or ask them on the forum.
I had an idea for a category
-
Fastest time to get 10 kills (it would be fastest to do it in one battle but maybe not) Other numbers of kills could be used like 6 and 8 or even 50 but 10 seems like a decent starting challenge.
-
A few rules would include starting the time when the first battle starts and ending it when the 10th kill is achieved (and removing the loading time in between games). This would need to be done in a Random Battle (to prevent a obj 140 killing a bunch of T1s in a private match). Verification would be achieved by summing the number of kills in each battle.
-
A potential category division would be between <T5 and T5+ (because seal clubbing is a thing). Another division could be with using the same tank/ dying.
What do you all think about it? I'll probably post a <T5 10 kills run sometime soon
I think this is interesting I'll also try some runs later. About the timing method though I think it is best to use the in-game timer (just as we do with the bootcamp).
Also, grand battles should not be allowed in my opinion. It could be another category, but I personally will not do it. If some other people do though we might consider adding it.
I agree, I played a couple battles when they first came out but I've disabled them in settings. They just don't have the same feel as Randoms.
I like the idea about the in-game timer, makes things easier Also, game version shouldn't matter, as long as there isn't a silly new mechanic, it could probably just be one version category.
Here is an example run for a <T5, 1 kill speedrun I didn't have much time so I forewent the 10 kill challenge
In my opinion, premium tanks have no discernable advantage in this category so unless an op prem tank comes out, standard and premium tanks can be combined. (One could make the argument that there should be a free to play category however).
Just got a new best in this category, it's very luck based and map dependent (mines probably being the best) but it's actually pretty fun
okay nice, I'll add some categories to the leaderboard later today. We'll keep them for a month or so and then we can see if people like them/do them. If not we'll remove the category. if 2 or 3 people are willing to put time into a category we'll probably keep them.
Sounds good; should I say something in the WoT discord about the new categories?
(to start growing the community)
Yes, you can definitely do that. Would be cool if more people would come to this leaderboard. I've added 5 categories for now (4 are also split into below tier 5 and tier 5 and above). If one of the new categories has 0/1 runners on 7-11-2020 the category will be removed. No new categories will be added before this date. We will first look at how popular the categories we now have will become.
Hello all, I am organizing an event for the French community to give visibility to the speedrun section of wot I'm talking about it because I see that there is movement here, I had planned to organize this in the bootcamp category but the new sections open up new possibilities. anyway i will try to bring people with this little event
Do you have any more info on this event? Or have you not pushed through this idea? I'd like to hear what you're planning and how it's going
The event is still planned, I am in contact with streamers to plan that and also with the Francophone CM of Wargaming to help me with the organization.
So I have a few things:
- Personally I think the 1 Kill and 10 Kill categories are wonderful, but the 20 Kill maybe is too long to complete. 2) The 10k XP is a bit unusual of a category in my opinion. There is no real way to tell how much XP you are getting in the battle. It makes it a mystery with no real way for people actively track their base XP total.
Suggestion: So we already have the Tier 5 NG category, I think it is a great category and relatively fun. The struggle with that is it can be a hassle to make a new account every time to run that. I would suggest a "Tier 5 Tank Completion" category where a player purchases a stock tank (Tier 5 only) and researches all the modules (Next tank research isn't required as random blueprints would ruin people's runs and it would disqualify the use of Collectors tanks which I think would be cool for people to use). For this type of category I think it would need to be split between Standard Acc and Premium Acc. The following are potential rules for this category: -Must show purchasing stock vehicle and all the modules unresearched -Time starts from the first "battle" button -Cannot use Free XP when researching modules. -Cannot use boosters (Premium Acc provides a passive XP boost that would be in another category; and has the Manageable x3 XP, allowed for Premium Acc) -Type of Account must be visible upon pressing "battle" -Time ends when you research the final module -(Anything else you feel is needed cause I can't think of everything :P) I think it would be okay to subtract the queue time from the total time as well.
I have removed the categories with no runs (20 kills and 10.000 base-xp). I am going to add some new categories now, because the last ones did quite well (5 new runners and even more runs). We'll try them until 2021 has started and see how they do. For now the new categories will be the following: Tier 5 NG (no bootcamp) Stock grind (split between standard and premium account, and for tier 4 up untill tier 9) (as Bagels requested).
Maybe adding a category. "One shot". Split in to two sub categories Fastest one shot someone received and dealt. It would be interesting category to see.
