So, how is everyone enjoying the submissions so far? Bring up anything that's particularly caught your eye or looks interesting.
Myself, I'm submitting 5 games for AGDQ: Sonic Adventure 2, Undertale, Sparkster Genesis, Sparkster SNES (Yes, they're two different games) and Rocket Knight. You can find full details of each run in the individual submissions.
As a personal recommendation, I highly suggest checking out Megaman Battle Network 1 and 2, submitted by Tterraj42 and Keizaron, respectively. If you like RNG manipulation in RPGs, those runs will blow your mind.
I read a lot of the submissions the first couple of days. People submitting 3, 4, 5, even 8 hour runs?!? I wonder if those people had ever watched a GDQ before. No game will ever get more than 2:30 (and even that's pushing it a little) without being Mario, Zelda, or Final Fantasy. And even then, probably only one or two of those per marathon.
I also had to LUL at the person who submitted Garfield racing and just copypasta'd their submission text from an ad for the game. The laziness is strong in this one.
Me, I'm gonna submit Escape Plan and Stick it to the Man. I'm still trying to get the best possible VOD's for them, and if I run out of time, I'll submit imperfect VOD's. I think either one would be a cool fit for the event but I'm not naive enough to expect either to get picked. It's sill exciting just to submit, I never have before.
I had an idea today, why GDQ don't let people choose what they want on the next GDQ?
So I made a rating system for GDQ Submissions myself: http://tools.furious.pro/gdq
The submissions are updated every 5 minutes, votes are in realtime. Have fun :)
Funnily enough your rating system caused me a lot of grief with the Undertale guys. I'm not blaming you because obviously you couldn't have predicted that was going to happen, but still. Feels bad, man.
So, if a submission previously had five negative ratings and two positive, then it would have had a rating of negative three. After eliminating the negative rating system, would that run now have two positive ratings? I'm just curious if it started over, or if the current ratings reflect the previous ratings.
@furrywulfz
Ultimate Ghosts 'N Goblins Revised, whoo!
Yeah, Aquas has done a great job of that game, so far.
If you don't know, his goal is to match this segmented run: http://speeddemosarchive.com/GokuMakaimuraKai.html
I will livestream myself eating a hat if any run 3 hours or longer that isn't Mario, Zelda, or Final Fantasy gets in. And not just this GDQ, ever.
Also, I just got WR in one of the game I plan to submit, so.....that's pretty sweet :D Can still go even lower, so I'll hold off for a little while longer before I submit.
@kobepilgrim Sorry for the late response...
Yeah I removed the negative votes, people on twitter didn't liked it because fans of popular runners would negative other runs and positive their "idol" runs, childish behavior...
I submitted Stealth Bastard Deluxe. It's not run by a lot of people, it's not all that popular, and I've never been to GDQ...not to mention I don't really have a reputation. On the upside, it's a fun game in general, it's pretty technical for speedrunning, and it's REALLY marathon safe. Plus, it's never been at a GDQ before. The world record is a little over an hour, my PB is 1:13, and I can consistently get around 1:20 or lower.
...a guy can hope, right?
I pitched the hell out of Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, I don't think i've ever written such a pitch, and unfortunatley donation incentives don't get put in public view.
As for what caught my eye, benstephen's submission of The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Muh favorite handheld zelda and really hoping this is the year for it
Looks like they've got just about all the submissions publicly posted (maybe all of them). I know I won't get picked but I'll still be excited to check the list on 5 October!
Everyone up vote Fairly Oddparents: Shadow Showdown OpieOP It is a very broken and fun quick run. You get to see another busted 3d cartoon platformer.
Only two more days until we know what's in and what's out. Aside from (if applicable) your own runs, anything you're especially hopeful makes it in? There's some good stuff in the submission pool. And some true crap too 4Head
It appears I'm not getting in (it will likely take all night for the declined runs to be marked as such, mine are technically still 'pending'). Most of what's in looks cool, but I'm extremely disappointed that they accepted the blind-race tournament. To me that's exactly the opposite of what any speedrunning marathon but certainly a major and prestigious one should be all about. You should come to an event like AGDQ knowing what you're running and how to run it, yeah? On top of that I really don't think it'll be that interesting to watch, but I do hope I'm wrong there.
I'm in... I can't believe it. Come January, I'll be showing people what Sparkster is all about.
