So what are all the different ways to do the lazer skip? I usually just open the inventory and switch to the striker with an audio cue but I heard about a faster way. Morse66 has this inventoryless way to do the skip but I have to switch to the striker eventually anyway so I don't know if this really saves much.
It's really just those two ways right now, I would always switch to my striker in 30 fps runs since I needed it out anyways.
I would be more interested in why this works too because we could potentially use this in other scenarios. It must have something to do with the striker being out since I had this happen to me a long time ago
Here's my video of the stutter step:
So far there are three ways to do it. The stutter step way, the wall-hugging way (which I don't really know how to do), and the inventory way, which everyone knows and is super easy.
Really, the biggest benefit of the stutter step would be something like this:
Doing the second half of the truck in 5-2 with only a grenade equipped without going to the inventory would allow you to run with it until you get to the U3 area, and because running with the grenade is faster you can save a few seconds that way. However it's pretty much not going to happen in an actual run unless you are super lucky.
The reason the stutter step laser skip is good for Morse is he's talking GC NG where he already has the striker out at that point. NG+ it's no difference since we're switching either way.
Side note for anyone who may have a hard time with the audio que; I'm pretty sure I'm the only runner who does this you can also simply look down with the cam and go by visual que however the way you have to hook on the controller is super jank to input everything there that way but I'm used to it
Again, the second video I posted above is the biggest benefit that could come from using the stutter step.
Keeping the striker out saves 5 sec for the double switch when you first enter the inventory for the gre or whatever to skip the lazer, and reenter again to equip the striker for U3. It's merely optimisation. For HD versions, it's not that big of a deal.
As i've explained in a facebook page, doing the stutter step isn't that bad, but i do not recommend hiting the wall.
The thing you have to know is that the last range of lazers won't spawn until you pass a trigger. After you just passed the trigger, you can do the stutter step at any time you want. The most important thing is not where to stop but when to stop. The stutter step is an auto set up move (like oot) to garantee to get to the 3rd lazer range at a certain time.
My highlighted video didn't point that out clearly. Of course, that B press is hard to do. But if you miss (realized it) you can just react to the QTE.
