Why is PCSX2 banned?

I know people argue that it's not accurate enough, but what does that even mean? Is there a visble and clear difference between the glitches used in the regular Sly speedrun and the PCSX2 run? Are there PCSX2 quirks that would cause quicker times than normal?

It's just too inconsistent with lags and stuff.

Is that a fault of one's PC, or PCSX2 however?

I ran on an emulator for about a week and a half to learn skips and routing before my PS2 arrived from America. There are a few problems with emulators compared to console.

Load times with an emulator is insanely fast compared to PS2, and even a BC PS3. My computer was built in 2012 and had mid-level specs, and it was still much faster than both consoles. Those with monster modern rigs would have access to load times that would be impossible to compete with without having a similar top of the line setup.

Emulators are also never completely accurate at running games. I had problems and glitches that occur simply because i was running on an emulator, which killed many runs. There are also parts where there is lots of slowdown and lag, and anyone who saw me do runs while i was on an emulator could see that some parts were impossible due to this.

There is also a bit of input lag when it comes to making Sly do his actions, and the plugin used by PCSX2 is also incredibly inaccurate at times as well.

Not to mention, the ability to prove that someone isnt cheating is incredibly hard while using emulators. Cheats are very easy to find online for PS2 games and emulators make it that much easier to implement them.

This is all i can think of off the top of my head, im sure other people will chime in with their two cents as well.

I like your otter picture, but emulator is too inaccurate in most cases to be considered for the leaderboards. Crayons basically summed it up, and it's why our usual response is "you can't use emulator because it's too inaccurate," because that's simply how it is. Generally too lazy to go in depth with why and how it's inaccurate, but it has quite a few flaws that makes it unfair and just weird to play.

Hey o/

I saw you run this game at AGDQ and I love speedruns, why not me ? So i'm training to run this game too and I have a question for Crayons cauz u start to run on an emulator like me !

Actually, i don't have the game and only have a PS2, so i'm training on an emulator (PSCX2), I understand it's inaccurate but i would know if it will be hard for me if I play many hours on an emulator if one day i'm starting to play on PS2 or PS3 for be on the leaderboard or the contrary easier to handle ?

Sry for my bad english :(

Thx all ! ♥

There is a pretty big difference between Console + Emulator, but whatever you learn will translate after a little bit. After two or three full runs where I just aimed to try and hit tricks, I was pretty much back to my same skill level. If you need any help, feel free to send me a message on Twitter or Twitch.
