This is not the general discord for risk of rain returns, just speedrunning
I would prefer both being available if we're going to have an arbitrary restriction on the category. If people want to run one or the other I say let them decide for themselves
I created a discord for speedrunning/game discussion and added it to the sidebar.
There’s really no set rules for speedrunning, but I’ve always known it to be the fastest way possible within reason, and easy seems very reasonable to me and I enjoy it more as the default category. I’m always open to standard as it’s own category too but I will prefer easy for the speed.
In most speedruns that I'm aware of, any% means beating the game as fast as possible by any means, including difficulty. We could always have standard be a separate category if we wanted.
Standard doesn't change much except lower starting health, lower hp regen, and just a few slight buffs to some stages (I've only ever noticed one change) and slight buffs to some bosses like DOULA getting 1 more sweep between phases.
If easy made the game way too easy or completely trivialized the run in some way, I'd be fine ignoring it, but it seems really balanced to me and is still very challenging throughout.
If you don't mind I'm going to update the two main categories to any% Neutral End and Any% True End. 100% implies all read minds too, and I assume that category is supposed to represent collecting all the secrets for the alternate ending.
I'm also going to remove the chapters as categories since theyre also listed in the level leaderboard (where they should be).

Something to note for the stiletto/knife dance build is you can swap velocity for emergency triage right before hotk for extra survivability. This build is the one I’m keeping the closest eye on.
I wonder if it giving more EXP is unique to just spider queen or if killing things with super shot just gives more EXP in general
Using super shot to kill a boss is not a glitch or unintended, and we already use it to kill pretty much every boss. You gain a lot of levels killing bosses through any method and I'm not sure getting a bunch of levels is even that relevant when all you really want to do is max your speed which will already be done by the time you reach spider queen.
The way to save a seed is to go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata*AnotherFolderWihNumbers*\588650\remote where your 3 save slot files are saved. They are labeled as user_0.dat, user_1.dat, and user_2.dat. The way you can save the seed is to create another folder somewhere on your computer, copy the user_(number).dat into that folder, then play through the current level. When you want to re-load the seed, paste the user_(number).dat back into the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata*AnotherFolderWihNumbers*\588650\remote folder and overwrite the existing file.
Added you as a mod, feel free to adjust the categories to what would be appropriate with the new patch. I’ll be definitely checking out the game again once I get back
Hey, I don’t know how I never got a notification for this post and I’m seriously sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I haven’t kept up with vagante since my last run so I’m not really aware of what changes the game have been made, I’ll check them out as soon as I get back to my computer. Regarding moderation I’m definitely cool with adding new mods, just let me know if you’re still interested.

Sorry I missed this question earlier, like Thaan said what you’re describing is the Fresh File category, Any% and Any% seeded do not need to be the first run of a file
Why divide though, all bosses should just mean that you have to kill the boss in each stage of your playthrough regardless of which you pick
