you have to press both keys at exactly the same time for it to work
if youre confident that youve done that and it still isnt working, idk
like actually though should this be allowed i wasnt really expecting my run using it to get accepted before deciding on this
but in the meantime, WR baby, eat my shorts slower players
but actually though, it'd definitely not a "glitch" because it is intended behavior, it seems to be a cheat code the developer used for easy debugging. they either forgot to remove it or figured nobody would figure it out anyway
why it should be allowed in any%: why wouldnt it be, its just using a feature in the game to save time
why it shouldnt be allowed in any%: its a cheat code lol. it removes all of the interesting routing involving weapon costs and weapon accessibility. most importantly it means that Big Pianta goes unvisited.
Hello NEVERDOORS, I am glad you asked! It is possible to beat the game on a save file with 0 stars. We will call this file "File B". First, you'll need a different file which has access to Bowser in the Sky (the Bowser stage at the top of the staircase behind the 70 star door). We will call this file "File A".
Once the above requirements have been met, you may enter Bowser in the Sky on the above file mentioned which we called "File A". After doing so, press Tab and choose "Exit to Main Menu"!
Open "File B" (the one you want to use to beat the game!) and active a respawn without entering any stages! The easiest and fastest place to do this is outside Jolly Roger Bay (check out my recent Big Pianta RTA speedrun in 21.78s for an example!). You'll notice something exciting: you respawn right outside the entrance to Bowser in the Sky! This is because that location was set as the respawn location while playing on "File A", and the respawn location was never updated before triggering a respawn on "File B".
You can now proceed to beat the game by defeating Bowser at the end of the Bowser in the Sky stage! Without performing any other tricks at this point, you'll be stuck with only the pistol (uh-oh!), but there are a few strategies to get a better weapon before the face off with Bowser.
Anybody here still looking for somebody? I plan on going for the days I can get a shared room for so just let me know if interested. Twitter DM is preferable.
Looks like I'm the only person running 3DS games, which has it's own unique layout of 5:3 for the top screen and 4:3 for the bottom screen. In my opinion it looks better to have the bottom screen be smaller and to the side, rather than trying to stack the screens vertically like on the console. The bottom screen isn't very important in either of my runs, the top screen is where all the action happens, so there's no need for it to take up that much space
For that good of a time, yeah, you should probably have your run recorded to expect it to get verified. You don't need high quality, a webcam is acceptable, just as long as it's something. If your time is more modest, as a moderator I don't personally care if you provide video evidence
Added it, and put greenalink's run on it. Hopefully this new leaderboard gets populated :)
I think the category where you complete 8-Castle2 again after S8-Castle is the way to go. When you do this, you end the category in a definitive place (credits) that could be defined a few different ways. The question is, how do we define it? Here are potential ways:
"Special Ending" - This describes that you see the picture with Peach in the tanooki suit when you finish. This is the name that Greenalink used, as well as a name used for categories in other games, so it has precedence.
"4 Star" - This name guarantees that all of the unique star medals are obtained. If you don't know, the four stars would be beating the game, beating all levels in the 8 regular worlds, obtaining all 285 unique star medals, and beating the game again after beating S8-Castle. Bombercules has run "X Star" categories before so this also has some precedence.
"All Pictures" - This refers to the picture house in W3. There are 12 photos, one for starting the game, one for beating each regular world, one for unlocking special world, one for beating the game as Luigi, and the "Special Ending" photo. This definition requires beating the game as Luigi. We would need to test if this can be done simultaneously with the "Special Ending" photo.
Personally I think I favor "Special Ending" the most, then "All Pictures", then "4 Star". Thoughts? Better ideas? Lay 'em on me. Hopefully we can get this added soon, seems like it could be fun.
Sounds like the category you're looking for is "Special Ending". For special ending, you have to beat the game a second time after beating S8-Castle. Greenalink posted a video showing off this category idea fairly recently. This requires no golden flagpoles or duplicate levels (beside 8-Castle2) and requires 290 star medals to unlock S8-Castle. If I remember correctly, this can also be defined as "4 Star" but I'd have to double check.
I added all of them except for 1 person who is known to lie about times, 1 person who I am confident also lied about times, 1 run that I know is outdated, and 1 that I know was TA instead of RTA.
Yo, I was looking at the 100% rules and they're not quite what previous runs have followed. In the past we have defined 100% simply as "Beat S8-Crown". Unlocking that level in the first place requires beating all other levels with both characters, all golden flagpoles, and all star medals (obviously excluding street pass). It also means you will have 5 stars on your profile. We do not require them to be shiny stars, however.
So, the definition could be something like:
-Beat S8-Crown -Beat all other levels with both characters -Collect all Star Medals (excluding ones obtained through StreetPass) -All Golden Flagpoles
Or, since that has redundancy in requirements, it could simply be:
-Beat S8-Crown
Also, small note that applies to every category. After creating your file, if you reset the game, the big "OK" box isnt there anymore, and you can start the game by pressing A on your file. This is very slightly faster to do, and it is allowed. So, maybe you can just say "Timing begins when pressing A to open your file" since that includes both methods of starting the game.
