I would say modifying the rule to require an input overlay like NohBoard ( https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/nohboard.44/ ) for keyboard inputs or Gamepad Viewer ( https://gamepadviewer.com/ ) for controllers wouln't be the the worst idea. I'm a fan of keeping the rule in place, regardless, but I think I agree with Pala that there has to be a way to see controller setups.
It may even be easily possible to fake inputs with the tools I linked but honestly the only next step I can think of is requiring a handcam and at that point I feel like that'd cut off a lot of people to running the game just from the sheer cost, whereas right now this is a game that can run and be recorded on most low-end laptops (I know because I used to be a runner on a low-end laptop).
Yup. It got a PS4 and Xbox One release on March 16th this year.
Oops, haven't been looking at this thread, my bad. The reason I was against just straight up allowing 2.08 was just because people who did the run with the prologue would just get blown out of the water (the fastest I've ever done the prologue is still over four minutes). What I've decided I'm going to do is play through 2.08, which shouldn't take too long, and then decide what to do for the leaderboard. I'm leaning more towards banning prologue skip, but I do like the idea of making sub categories for with or without prologue.
Do feel free to continue adding to the conversation, though. I think it's important to hear everyone's thoughts on the matter.
EDIT: "Prologue Start" and "Prologue Skip" have been added as sub-categories through a small discussion on the Discord server. Thanks for all your guys' input <3
Sen has recently released a free version 2.08 that includes the prologue skip found in the Steam version of Mad Father. I'm not sure if this version should be allowed or not, but feel free to discuss it here; I am leaning a bit towards keeping the game to 2.06 for the free version but I'd love to hear everyone's opinions on the matter.
I'll sticky this :) It seems like a great place to get some people who like running this game together
Yeah, it's actually more accurate to call the new version "ver 3.01" since that's what it is and the old one is "ver. 2.56" or something along the lines to that. Since I'm actually getting fairly close to ty's time with the Steam version I figured it wouldn't be too bad to keep them on the same leaderboards, though ver. 3.01 also introduced the ability to get good ending without 100%, so I might add that to the categories.
I dunno, I just need time to think it all over. I just don't think the Steam version is significantly slower or faster than the free vgperson and Miscreant's Room release quite anymore.
With the release of Mad Father on Steam, there's an image that could likely be used as a much better alternative for the picture on the site right now ( http://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/483980/header.jpg?t=1474897570 ) and also with that release, the game's map layout has changed a bit so perhaps either making a new game entry or a couple new run categories for that would be a good idea? Just suggestions, of course. It might be weird to have runs of the original version and the new version together when they're drastically different in terms of map content.
I used to casually speed run Portal 2 with friends and for a small Twitch audience of three or four viewers a lot and I decided I want to try going for mega fast times (since all of mine w/o the tricks speedrunners use were around two hours). Any tricks that every speedrunner should know that'd help me? Thanks in advance!
