Yeah I was thinking about that too, I thought it would be too much but maybe it should be ok, I will add them
only work on the game menu? have you the foot bag event where you have kind of a free control? I guess the keyboard control works right? otherwise I have no idea what's happening, sorry :(
I was able to get the moderator permission, I added 3 new categories (and update the theme). Let me know if I should change something
For the Individual Category we have 2 options:
- Create a separate "Level Leaderboard" (preview: )
- Create a new "Individual Level" categories with a sub-category (variable) for each level (preview: )
I think create a new Category + sub categories looks better
For the individual Level, I don't think we need to set individual rules for each level, so maybe simply create a new category with sub category. For the general individual Level rule, I'm proposing this:
- Timer starts when you press the button 1 or 2 on the "Next event" screen
- Timer stops when you see the "Event Scores" screen
For the "Some Events", I think the idea is to only keep the fun level: Skateboard, Skating, BMX & Flying Disk Since Foot Bag is just waiting and surfing is just smashing, it makes sense to exclude those 2 I don't think we need to have sub categories for that and the rules would be pretty much the same as All Level
it's fine I will ask Star Fox later. Maybe for now we can discuss and agree on the rules? I've tried adding category and sub category using variables for another game, It's really flexible and we can revert the changes easily. But if we want to define the rule for each sub-category, We can only define the game rules and the category rules. Because of that, I think it's would be better to create a new category instead of making a sub-category, what do you think? For the Individual Level, the leaderboard has already a section for that and we can add a rules for each level
We can at least rename "All Levels" to "All Levels - Any%"
For "All Levels - All High Score" Category I propose this: Get all the high score for all the levels, the "new record" screen must appear after the end of each level. here are the minimum score for each level
- Skateboard: score > 10000
- Foot Bag: score > 35000
- Surfing: score > 5.5
- Skatting: score > 1010
- BMX: score 15000
- Flying Disk: score > 777
@AntBlueR how would you define "No Game-Over"? I watched a long play video, it would always show "Game Over" at the end of each level ahah. I guess it would be like complete until time's up or until reaching the end level for skating & BMX? for flying disk I don't know how to define "No Game-Over"
I saw that on the NES run, but it's not the case for the SMS version. yes I'm using BizHawk (2.3.2), any recent version would work and it's a very good emulator
that would be nice to be moderator, I was think to update the theme as well
I was looking at the NES leaderboard, there is a "Some Events" category for Skateboard, Skating and Bmx. Maybe we can ask an admin to add those categories?
- "All Events" (with "any%", "no game over", "all high score" sub categories)
- "Some Events"
- "One Event" (with a sub category for each event)
I'm not sure how flexible is speedrun.com for changing category, but the current "All Events" can become "All Events - Any%" (category & sub category). What is everyone thinking about this proposition?
for the skating only the balloon has RNG, for the other sidewalks items it's the same for each run, at least for the SMS version
I will check that next time, but so far for the BMX, jumping is possible when the bike has enough speed and on flat or up hill surface. For the skating yes maybe falling on the manhole or the ice cream will be faster.
Also I was wondering if there are some other "Critical Hit" / Death that would give an instant game over? Same as the front flip death with the BMX
any idea how I can improve the skating? I'm doing 2 frames down arrow and holding up arrow. maybe 2 frames down, 2 frames up, 2 frames down and holding up is faster? as I said It's a low optimization so I didn't try different possibilities.
I was curious about how fast can be the Any% and I wanted to check where I can improve my time. So I've made a low optimization TAS (using BizHawk 2.3.2) and I got a time of 2:47.566.

For my current PB of 2:51 (not published yet), the biggest time save is for the flying disk (-1.4s) and more time save on the skating & BMX. The foot bag and Surfing are just mashing so it's pretty low saving (-0.1s and -0.2s). Finally for the Skateboard, it's about -0.4s save.
yeah that would be an fun category, to be honest the any% is a bit borring because of that and it's mostly smash skills. I was thinking about a "Any% High Score" where we need to get a new record for each level, that can be fun and there will be some interesting stuff to search
Thanks for the link MagicPokey! yeah I could tell there is a bit of a pattern for the first level (lake level?). for the Forest Level it's a bit predictable, like the bear spawn. during the christmas break I will try to look around the game's memory using the emulator, I will post if I found something interesting
I also submitted my run to speed Demos Archives, LotBlind who is very familiar with Alone In the Dark (AITD) review my run and discuss about it
There is a thread created on the speedDemosArchive forum about Time Gate: https://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/time_gate_knights_chase_13.html#time_gate_knights_chase_13
So far the discussions are about:
- what version can be used
- Potential glitch similar to Alone In The Dark (AITD)
- Things to read from the AITD guide
- DosBox configuration (number of cycles)
I watched a bit of your stream you did 2 days ago. Do you know about the trick to bring the "M" pot inside the chocolate boss area? Not sure if you checked the TAS, there are many shortcut & tricks that are humanly possible:
Hello! I've done a speedrun of a game called Time Gate: Knight's Chase. it's pretty similar to Alone In the Dark, actually one developer of this game informed me that both game are using the same motor.
I was wondering if someone would mind to look at my run and share some feedback. I submit this game on website, I'm still waiting for approval
Hello,
I've submitted a new game request 3 weeks ago, I feel I want to change some small details on the description. I couldn't find any "Edit" button, only a "Withdraw" Button.
Is my pending request in a stack somewhere?
I was thinking I could withdraw it and add it again but I don't want to loose position in the "stack".
Thanks :)
Hi! I'm Arnaud, I was born in 1991 (28y) in France and now living in Toronto (Canada).
I've joined speedrun.com recently to submit a run of an old DOS game: Time Gate - Knight's Chase. It was my favourite game when I was kid and nobody did any speedrun for this game yet. I posted 4 runs on my youtube channel.
I like retro game speedrun in general, I'm watch AGDQ and SGDQ every year. I'm also interested in TAS, I've tried myself a bit but I didn't have so much time to do a full game. Recently I'm enjoying watching Minecraft runs, especially now with those new WR coming up!
